I got my ANA renewal notice and... does the ANA think I can't do math?

I don't mind renewing for a number of years, and I think there's generally an assumption that the longer term you pay for, the cheaper it is. Well it seems the ANA either forgot that or thinks I can't do basic math... or are they building in future dues increases before the dues are actually increased?

I could really save by renewing my Gold membership for 6 years by renewing for 2 years 3 times... that's the 5-year renewal plus a highly discounted $20 sixth year.

The one unknown here is that you don't know what the prices for membership will be one, two, five years from now. This could be their way of telling you that membership prices are going up in the future. In which case, doing one of the not cheaper per year longer term Gold renewals will end up being cheaper in the end if that's the one you wanted.

Except they don't all have the same trend.

They seem to be allowing for future inflation. I don't think it was an error on their part.

Seems more likely that someone at the ANA can’t do math.

    It's a mistake. It's a $5 mistake.

Geez. If it bothers you, go with 3 years, and take your chances on no price increase between now and 2029. Or maybe, if you call them and ask nicely, they'll credit you the $5.

Because it's clearly a mistake. All of the categories have a one year price, and then a tiny discount for each subsequent year that does not change regardless of whether you go for 3 years or 5. No reason they would intentionally single out Gold for different treatment.

If they were trying to reflect future changes, you'd think they would. I don't think only one tier is changing

    Simple error on the ANA.
I'd suspect they would modify their pricing if this was brought to their attention.
In the meantime, not a good look.

Give the ANA a call, leave a message and wait to see if your call is returned. Good luck.

I called the membership number. Two rings, and a rep answered.

Passed on the info in the OP. She said she would forward it to the appropriate party.
