Pausing Submissions again for most collector used tiers
My last submission took 7 months to complete. Now another pause. Guess it will be a year next time

I could see this a mile away....someone at PSA told me in early May that they were still checking in boxes from Mid-March...it will be interesting to see how this affects raw prices, prices of already graded slabs, etc...many people rely on a consistent flow of subs back from PSA, and with value levels closing down, there will be some folks who really feel it
So sgc Bgs numbers and prices go up up
While that is horrible, it means they failed to learn from the last time. Rules of "fool me once.." apply

I wonder if this will translate into Covid type resale prices on cards.
Going though a bunch to send. Is June 2 the postmark date?
Maybe that's why the Nolan 10's are going through the roof.
Ryan's cards have been insanely high for several years and seem to be getting worse.
Makes no sense to me that his 20th year card in a PSA 10 is worth more than and other card in the set.
I think my favorite threads involve the conjecture about why PSA has complete control over the minds of card chasers. Brainwashing is their vibe.
7 months? Wow. Turn around times for tickets now is only 3-5 weeks. Glad I got out of the card business.
2025 SEC bowl record 4-10
SEC bowl record vs BIG TEN last two years 2-8
Going to eBay -- raising prices...
agreed. it seems that Nolan has become the Mantle of pitchers. his prices have been nuts for quite awhile now. the last rookie that graded a 9 (SGC) that i have seen sold went for a little over $100k just a few weeks ago!

I'm sure 4 S C will continue to submit at discount pricing without any service interruptions and placed in front of the line to receive their 10s

I think this definitely has a big impact on the raw card market. I remember talking to people when subs were not being accepted last time and some were theorizing that the lowest price for a sub would be $100. During that period I remember getting some nice deals on raw cards where it kind of felt like maybe this card is only worth 30 to $70 graded so maybe in this world it would never be worth submitting. Then $50 a card grading opens up and who knows if its ever getting cheaper than that. Glad it did. But for a while only buy a raw card if you think it could be a home run.
I kind of feel like interest in opening modern with the hope of hitting a big chase card or just pulling some nice gradeable cards would cool off dramatically if you cant submit them to PSA and cant be sure when you could or if it will be affordable. I kind of felt like at 24.99 I had less interest in grading. So whatever the next price is might make opening some product a waste of money. So why do it now if you dont know?
Used to be getting a good grade was the gamble. In addition, now it's the time frame to get the cards back within an acceptable time frame is the gamble as well. Double whammy.
Almost better to sell your $200 current player card raw then send in for grading, waiting # of months. Then player washes out or sustains a career ending injury.
The release does not specifically exclude tickets from the pause. Has this been clarified by PSA?
this may clean up some of the "junk" slabs in the hobby. I just cannot see any reason to be grading ultra modern $5 cards.

4 Sharp Corners just launched PSA submissions through its company for grading and/or re-holdering for collectors. This week, I sent 4 SC a 1957 Frank Robinson RC PSA-8 to be re-holdered. Now, everyone can enjoy the VIP treatment like 4 SC.
My boy Craig44 posts a lot of the ties of MBA, etc. and do they do these to their own cards. Fair question. Mint just posted right above this a very interesting situation. So if we tie Craig and Mint's posts together with PSA and 4SC, this could answer a lot of questions we have been asking about for years. There appears to be a direct relation here. Very direct.
Not sure what you are referring to olb31. I am just reporting what came out last week with respect to a new service provided by 4 Sharp Corners.
I was implying if 4 SC receives special treatment….then anyone can do so as well since a submission from a collector could now be submitted through 4 SC.
Thank you for posting this. I hadn't seen it but will absolutely use them.
At this point I don't have any interest in self-subbing but would use those guys. I consigned a ton of stuff with them last year and the process was great.
I have used 4 SC for its last two (2) Showcaee Auctions …and have been very pleased with the results…especially since 4 SC only takes 5% for single cards with a value of at least $1000.
Smart Move!

No your reporting is fine. Craig nicely point out in another thread about MBA buying cards and throwing gold or platinum stickers on them and reselling them (A hypothesis). Not saying that's happening. But is it possible certainly. Now connect PSA and 4. are they really separate?
Covid prices were the result of the government sending out stimulus checks.
Last time they paused submissions they also extended subscriptions.
Hmmm. I thought it was unnecessary panic, price manipulation and the pretentiousness of those who were spending ridiculous sums of money to acquire key cards. Ya learn something new every day.
Card prices are probably going to spike when you hit 1800 posts.
Or they were stuck at home and everyone went nuts!
They won’t give us extensions this time I am sure. I predict SGC shuts down by the National as everything $500 and under on vintage will go there. Not sure where the modern will go but they will shut down too. PSA grades 100K cards every day now - they were grading 15k a day pre-Covid. Nobody will have the capacity to take on the volume. If I were in charge of PSA I would make SGC vintage sports , Beckett modern sports and PSA TCG since it dwarfs the rest of their business. Then they have three companies each focusing on a different subset of collectors and they might be able to be more customer centric.
I just checked the website. The pricing is the same as PSA, so my assumption is they will make money off your raw cards no matter what they grade. The question is if your paying $24.99 per card, what are they paying for them to do the submissions to make it worthwhile to them?
That's a great idea on parsing the company into divisions but would sports collectors really go for no longer having the PSA label? Maybe they all the have the same label but each division does their own thing.
With the amount they're grading, buying a company just to shut it down to eliminate competition seems very short sighted.
Question:
Deleted.....I answered my own question.
Steve
I just renewed in April, then in mid-May they increased the Value Bulk minimum from 20 to 50 cards. Grading cards is my hobby, not my career, so tying up $1300 for 8+ months isn't exactly high on my list of things I want to do. Half that amount is bad enough. Couple that with not having any club specials for the past several months, and now pausing the Value level submissions completely, it looks like I wasted my membership fee because I likely won't be submitting anything this year.
At least they did extend the membership duration by at least four months, so that's something.
Regardless, with the new minimum being 50 cards, it just doesn't make sense for me to be a member, especially since I can submit cards to PSA for $25 at my local Game Stop with no minimum quantity.
Moved, and Seconded!
Steve
Since we don't pay until the grading is done, not sure how your money is being tied up?
I’m just going to eat a little better and exercise more.
knowing this how could psa be so ill prepared. if this were a stock, nvidia maybe, and they just quit doing business for a time they would get hammered. i would assume there will be some leadership at the top?
they purchased beckett and sgc and won't let them grow. not sure why though. lots of shortsidedness.
the shipping department is the biiggest cost and hang up. i actually told my friend monady it wouldn't surprise me if they don't outsource the shipping department to 4sc and others, then mintonly told us thats what they are doing.
100 cards for bulk per order solves most of the problems for psa. i spoke of this about 5 years ago. i would rather do one tax return for $1000 than 10 for $100 apiece.
Fwiw they aren’t ceasing business operations. Lots of companies stock out or have supply chain issues, where demand exceeds supply. Or, stoke demand by limiting supply.
Case in point, walk into your local Rolex dealer and try and buy a watch. You MAY get an opportunity to buy an undesirable spec but you are going to wait 1-3 years for anything in demand. You literally can’t buy a Rolex at the Rolex dealer.
Personally, I think that, and the PSA situation is ridiculous and choose to not participate. I don’t need to grade cards or wear a Rolex, buying graded/raw and wearing a kick ass Zenith is good enough for me.
I also gotta ask, what do you mean by collector used tiers? Are there non collector used tiers?
I'm sure everyone here is crashing thru their last sub before June 2. However the hobby will go on, we've been thru this once, so hopefully this time it doesn't cause too much market distortion. I do wonder what it will happen to the modern rc market since it looks like only the top cards will get subbed over the summer.
Where do you think the cards will go? My guess is that SGC will get the vintage and the TCG will go to CGC? Does modern go to BGS or to SGC? Generally speaking it looks like SGC sells for a slight premium over BGS for modern sports, however for someone who started to sub when BGS started, I have a soft spot for them.
i do well with sgc selling. the holders really are very good. i like beckett but they kept my order for 11 months last time.
Evening,
Man I don't envy you Cards Graders AT ALL. Been two years since I went back to my first love Comic Books! And not for Grading with PSA, No Way, in the last 3-5 years of sort of tracking CGC Grade postings and listings I saw Exactly 3 over 9.8 Comics, one 9.9 and two 10.0's. Since PSA started, at any given time there are at least 1/2 Dozen to a Dozen PSA Graded that High on Fee-Bay! and they have a 1/10th to 1000th the amount of submissions as CGC right now, if that! Yeah nothing smells there!!! I wouldn't touch a PSA Graded Book with a 10 Foot Pole, and they Look like Crap with the Red Borders and Lettering so small you need a Magnifying glass to read it! ! I just can't believe what they have become: I didn't like J. Orlando, but at least I Could talk to him!
YeeHaw!
Neil
Where have you gone Joe Orlando? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you. Woo woo woo.
These grading services are flooded with cards that were "not worthy" of being graded before.
Resellers created this monster.
good to hear from the dutymon!!!
Joe is a top notch guy. I wish him all the best at Heritage.
it has been 2 years since i made a sub. i dont plan on any in the future, between the very long wait times and uncertainty with USPS actually shipping my cards safely.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
What worse is FEDEX on the return. My last submission (2025) was a Wes Craven level Nightmare, the 6 week ordeal affected my health. Not that PSA cares but I will never submit to them again as a result.
I recall the good ol'days when PSA shipped via USPS Registered I never had a single issue.
Craig, USPS Registered is the only safe way to ship coupled with private insurance like CIS.

I agree on USPS Registered. whenever I have sold big cards (to me, $8-$10k) I have used Registered. I still get heartburn though until they are delivered.

I just saw the gemrate numbers for May. It looks like BGS is definitely on the upswing. they are up 49% over april and 145% year over year!!
it looks like PSA is going to let them have a little more leash. I would anticipate those numbers continuing to increase during the months PSA is down.
I wonder is SGC's numbers will increase as well?
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
