I guess buying clubs sent out the emails for this coin too late, so it has not drawn much attention from many people. In previous coin deals, many blogs and forums advertised and discussed about them.
Well I just got an email for an offer of $250 over sales price plus prepaid label. I was able to snag one easily. Tried to get a second and they were already sold out.
I DID tell everyone. I said under 5 minutes. 2 minutes is probably a new record.
With no lag and and no waiting room. They cleared scaled their capacity to process orders.
NOTE...this is an attempt at humor.......*****
You DID say 5 minutes, so I guess WRONG again! LOL
Seriously though, have we ever seen an under 2 minute sellout?
No. See my post above. This has to be a reflection of their increasing their capacity to process orders. Because I don't think they were ever able to process over 2K individual orders per minute in the past.
The question now is whether or not they will cancel bot orders. Because no waiting room, and 4K orders being processed in less than 2 minutes, means plenty of bots were probably involved.
And, I said LESS THAN 5 minutes, so not wrong!
But seriously, no one has ever seen anything go in less than 2 minutes. It's all the buyer clubs.
Because, while these are "special" due to the finish, dual dating and privy, it is STILL 2.5x the quantity sold in each of the past 2 years. And due to the recent price action of gold, the premium is probably an all time high at over $1,000 per ounce.
They would have sold out anyway, but not nearly this fast if not for all the non-collectors slamming the site to collect their $50 and airline miles. Especially after the mintage went from 6K to 7500. OTOH, holding back 3500 from public sale certainly helped accelerate the sell out.
Please see my post and let me know how it went for you.
I logged in at 8 minutes prior to noon and had no issue. Surfed around the site a bit and went to my Wish list. Refreshed twice at noon and it was available. Easy checkout and waiting my confirmation email Got the acknowledgement of order with order number.
Please see my post and let me know how it went for you.
I couldn't believe how easy it was, I logged on about 11:30 , did some other thing came back at 11:59 when it hit noon I refreshed and the it was add to bag. I even have a order number.
I like to think about how much of the demand for a $5000+ modern issue coin is people who actually want it for their collection versus people who are just told to buy it for me and I’ll give gas money.
I bet a whole host of mint products have much lower demand in real life than these sellouts indicate.

Good question. They don't have too many orders to go through (3980 was the ATS I believe prior to noon). Guess we will find out tomorrow or Saturday at 7:30 EST if they pop back available.

Did u wait to see it it would turn at noon or refresh right at noon?

Yup. That's likely just algo driven. Lots of buyers club people probably didn't realize they needed to be there at exactly noon, so they are hitting the site now.

A few ALWAYS pop up the day after. But, given how quickly these went, those will be grabbed by bots before humans have a shot. There can only be a few dozen at most, given how few there were to begin with.
For you guys who were logged in w no waiting room, did it turn to avaliable or did you get sent to waiting room?
After it hit noon and it still did not turn, I refreshed and went to waiting room.
It said 1 then 2 min. Then, unavailable.
Same as others, I was logged in 10 minutes ahead. After noon I refreshed the product page and it was available. I'm pretty sure there was extra capacity.
I'm 99% sure the waiting room is deployed automatically based on server load. No one is at the mint turning it on and off.

No. There is real demand. They don't all just end up collecting dust in dealers' safes. They go to grading companies, and then into collectors' hands, via eBay, TV, coin shows, etc.

There is no reason to cancel bot orders. The limit was one. Why would they care if someone executed the purchase by hand or automated? There is no prohibition on using automation to place an order. The limit is per household.

Agree. There's sufficient demand for 7500 coins in a country of 350M without factoring in any overseas demand.

I cannot be sure, but in my personal experience you can refresh the Wish List of your account without going into a waiting room situation (have done it with several releases this year and last), I have known others in the past who refreshed from the product page and got a waiting room after doing so.
