Does Anyone know Anything about this U.S. Mint Box?
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if you know anything about this box labeled U.S Mint? I am not sure if it is from late 1800s or a modern reproduction. Its height is 4 1/2” x 9 1/2” and depth is 10 3/4” it weighs 12.2 oz.
It is painted red and has “ U S Mint” stenciled in gold on one side. By the “T” in Mint is what appears to be a fleurs-de-lis symbol with a date of 1878 under the red paint.
The inside and bottom are not painted but the boards are fastened together in an interesting way on the side and I can see some small nails holding it together.
Let me know what you think!

I remember them and seen them for sale in stores that's about it
Do you have images of the flu-de-lis? Also, where is it relative to the T? Lastly, is that "JS Co" or "JO Co" written above the date? The images appear professional, did you take them?
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
I am not aware of any original such Mint box. I suspect that any such box is a modern fantasy fabricated from a legitimately old but generic wooden box for the antique store trade.
Thanks for your thoughts! The photos were taken by the person I bought the box from and I reposted them.
it doesn't look like the spacing between the letters is consistent
