Certainly one of the most unique and appealing toners I’ve ever owned.

Closes Sunday on GC.

A super toned coin
the 1972s are known for that. Sometimes they turn out all ugly when you take them out of their "chemical" box.
some of them are just simply all golden...sepends where they were stored.
your colors might still change in the future.
I think this is the wrong forum for your post but regardless,
The 1971, 2 and 3 prestige sets were encased in a red flocked display case.
The flocking seemed to have an effect on the nickel dollar that severely toned it.
There are probably more toned dollars than those without toning.
In 1974 the mint reverted to a black plastic case that seemed to solve the problem.
I have a couple hundred of 1971, 1972, 1973 waiting to send to PCGS for grading, but when I check out the grading fee, it made me hesitate. So, I put them in drafts for now in my PCGS account. I need to sell some coins to get the grading fee.
The dollar in the first post is almost certainly silver, not nickel.
Hilarious that this BST post turned into a greater conversation about toning, but hey that’s the internet.
A few notes…..
-the coin is most definitely 80% silver
-while many Canadian dollars from the 1970s are indeed toned, I’ve never seen one like this where the blue color is so perfectly cut along the waterline. The overall portrait is pretty incredible. You couldn’t have painted the lines any more perfectly.
The color on the Queen Elizabeth side is pretty standard for these, the voyager side is special, though.
Anyways, thanks for checking out my post.
Here are a few more. These pictures were taken a number of years ago, the gold on the top piece is much more intense today.
For accuracy sake: .500 silver.

The coin is not 80% silver it is 50% silver.
Composition Silver (.500)
Weight 23.3 g

Thickness 2.95 mm
Yes it’s definitely 50% silver.
Brain fart.
