11 Years Later: From Cupcakes at Canseco’s House to the Steroid Collection Series Two Reveal

Talk about a full-circle moment!
Eleven years ago tomorrow, I was embarking upon easily the craziest moment of my baseball card journey. I was pulling up to Jose Canseco's house with my family.

We ended up spending the afternoon with him - we played cards (with cards I made him,) ate cupcakes they made us, played with his animals, and even traded gloves. Oh, and yes, he signed a mountain of stuff for me.

I wrote about the experience, which got picked up by Beckett Magazine, and they put my childhood hero and me doing the bash on the cover!

Eleven years later, the story got crazier.
On March 3rd of this year, I went from creating cards of Jose Canseco for my collection, to creating cards with Jose Canseco for yours.
Series One sold out faster than I expected, and months later, I'm excited to reveal Series Two - on the eleven year anniversary of when my family went to his house! Guaranteed to increase your testosterone by 33%, this series features one of Jose's favorite pictures, and makes his 1991 Score Dream Team card blush.

Jose loves it. See?

Anywho, here's the breakdown ...
There are a total of 33 boxes, broken down to /25, /5, /2, and the 1/1.
The /25 cards will have one of seven relic colors, many of which have never been seen on Canseco cards outside of the Steroid Collection. Here is a neon green example ...
The card backs get holographic foil, visible relics, and a view of the back of Jose.

Series One featured dark green and gray mixed relics for card #'s 1/25, 25/25, and the cards in boxes 1/33 and 33/33. This time, we are kicking it up several notches by introducing the comic variant, with dual color relics.

The /5 cards get a splash of extra color, and also receive dual colored relics.

The /2 cards are upgraded to gold holographic foil, and the relics get radioactive - that is, they glow in the dark.

And now, the Final Boss, all powered up to the max.The 1/1 gets even more holographic gold, and also gets the radioactive relic treatment.

There will be SSP red ink signed and radioactive relic minis numbered to /10 randomly inserted, and one lucky collector will get a pre-recorded video shout-out by Jose Canseco himself!
At the time of the writing of this article, ~30% of the boxes have been reserved before any artwork has been shown - what you see above is the very first time the cards have been seen! If you'd like to reserve a box, you can visit this page - once the 33 boxes are gone, Series Two is closed forever.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has followed this journey over the years. Some of you were there when I was just a collector obsessing over Jose Canseco cards. Some of you followed along when Beckett Magazine unexpectedly put us on the cover after my visit to his house. And now, somehow, we’ve arrived here, creating cards together for collectors around the world.
As a lifelong collector, there is something uniquely special about owning cards personally curated by Jose himself. To me, they scratch an itch that the products released by the major card companies can't quite get to. Series One showed me there was a real place in the hobby for something this unapologetically different.
Series Two takes that idea even further. So far, here is how the entire series is stacking up!

If you'd like to reserve a box of Series Two of the Steroid Collection, you can do so here.

Nice story but it seems like this should be posted in the BST section of the forum. It reads more like an ad.
Noted, thank you!
Some nice cards Tanner - especially like the Beckett story.
BTW - was the post on teeth a spoof? Sure seemed like it.
good luck with series 2!!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Agreed. 99% of his posts/comments since his arrival are self-promotion. I get it and I suppose it's acceptable. There just hasn't been much contribution to the forums outside of that.
I will admit that while I'm not a fan of custom cards, he does some absolutely amazing work. Possibly the best in the business.
Thank you very much! And ... NOPE! The teeth thing was real. A guy I know literally bought them, and had me create some teeth cards
Thank you very much!
You are right, most of what I post showcases my work, or experiences in the hobby, however, I do write articles and post them from time to time as well. I hope that doesn't discount my contributions here in your eyes
Lol, I'm just some old collector dude on the internet. Obviously you have hobby knowledge outside of the custom work that you do. Just remember, comments and shared knowledge on other members posts are always welcome in the forum.
Are you telling me those were all his teeth?
For sure! I have been constantly running life wishing there were 72 hours in a day and 30 days in a week. Back in the day, I was more active on the forums. Maybe one day, things will slow down and I will be able to once again dive deeper into the hobby forumverse
Indeed I am!
I posted on April 1st, but they are literally his teeth. I have a card with a tooth of his that was in his mouth from the time he was in little league, and was there for every home run, haha.
