Preakness,2nd leg of Triple Crown

No chance for a TC with Golden Tempo bypassing the race.
Now, today, one of the early favorites has scratched. Silent Tactic has withdrawn from today's post drawing. This leaves the local undefeated horse Taj Mahal the buzz horse. Trained by Brittany Russell she will get much press. A woman trying to win a TC race.
Field looks to be an open betting affair with a full field of maybe 14 going to post.
Will take a stab at a few longshot across the board.

My plays:$1 across the board on Chip Honcho and Pretty Boy Miah.
Best of luck to all who bet the Preakness Saturday.

My charges ran 3rd and 14th. Coincidentally my #14 bet ran his cloth number, 14. Dead last. Do you realize how difficult it is to pick a horse out of 14 to run dead last?😆

I may be wrong on this, but I think in England you may be able to do just that. Horse racing is still big over there, and I know they even have "in race" betting or whatever it's called. Yes, you can place bets during a race. My guess it's mainly offered on those long distance races, steeplechase, etc, whereby a race can last for many minutes.

Early call on the Belmont and I think it's an easy call. I very much doubt that the Derby or Preakness winner is going to win the Belmont. Both may not even finish in the money. But then again, I haven't bet on a horse race in over 25 years, so maybe they both win the race in a dead heat - LOL.

A few years ago the Meadowlands harness track in New Jersey had what was called an odd/even wager where your bet placed was for any odd or even numbered horse to win. You had all the odd or even numbered horses.
The wager option did not last long.

Your call on the Belmont stakes I agree with. However, I am considering this aspect. The trainer of Golden Tempo is a local Saratoga native and favorite. And Saratoga and the NYRA would like nothing more than to see the "Hometown girl" make good. With this in mind look for track maintenance to groom the track to a closers liking and possibly a rabbit or two entered to insure a fast pace for Tempo to run into. Which this horse will surely need. The trainer may even enter her own rabbit to insure this scenario. If the leaders loaf on the front end with dawdling fractions will be tough for Tempo to run them down.
The promotion will be non stop for the local trainer to make good on her turf. Probably close to a sell out in attendance.

I'd have to think the pools were probably small. And all it probably did was cannibalize money from the other pools.

All that you mention has to help. My take on it is the horse was 23-1 in the Derby for a reason. Horses like this that win at long shot odds, rarely come back and win the next race, for a variety of reasons. I'm not saying the horse will "bounce" and run poorly. However it's easy to envision that horse running in the back of the pack again, making the same type of move it did in the Derby, but this time hanging in the stretch instead of passing horses.

I checked and didn't see any Belmont odds posted yet, but another problem is value. Considering everything including what you stated, the public is likely going to overbet the horse anyway.

Hey, I wouldn't mind at all seeing the horse win. Would be a great story. Especially because that lady trainer seems first class, and I wish her well. She's a winner even if the horse doesn't get it done in the Belmont.

Totally agree on a bomber winning at high odds. That kind of win is an anomaly. I've loosely kept track of those type of winners through the years and % wise they bounce. So I avoid a repeat win for them, especially st short odds. I like to see them go off short to increase value with other plays especially in the place or show pools. And you don't need a win to make a few $.

I enjoy perusing Youtube and of course the Youtube algorithm brings up new videos on my front page when I log-in, based on my viewer history. I watched the Derby replay several times, including the short videos which also came up, quite a number with that lady trainer, especially those of her wildly rooting for the horse during the stretch run. In subsequent videos, she is shown constantly hugging and kissing the horse which is fine.

As we all know, women love horses. It's probably their favorite animal for those who can afford to keep them and feed them, etc. This trainer in my view obviously loves this horse more than just a business sense, and that's fine as well. I only bring this up because she might either consciously or unconsciously, undertrain the horse for the Belmont, making sure to reduce the chances as much as possible of it breaking down. In no, way, shape or form do I see her trying to Baffertize this horse, working it to near death, to make a few extra dollars. All that being said, besides what already has been said, in my opinion it's simply an awful bet in the Belmont.

Now with all this "genius" handicapping, it might win by 31 lengths or whatever it was with the Secretariat margin in the Belmont. LOL
