Searches on GreatCollection and Heritage auction sites

cinque1543cinque1543 Posts: 521 ✭✭✭✭

I'm still finding my way around the auction sites mentioned in the title of this thread, but the search options for coins seem very limited. For example, I'm not seeing a way to select coins only produced at a certain mint, or coins only in PCGS holders with CAC stickers. Even the "advanced search" option seems limited. It seems like I can only search more generally, then just scroll through the results to find what I'm looking for. Am I missing something, or is that just the way they work?

You will be able to search the HA results quite narrowly. Not as much with GC, but I still think their search parameters are quite good. JMO.

    Good afternoon,

For “coins only in PCGS holders with CAC stickers”, did you already try the below search? I think it should work for you. I have an appointment that will keep me out for a couple of hours, but I’d be happy to try to help by messaging or phone. Please feel free to send me a private message and let me know if I can be of assistance.

Heritage allows you to narrow the search quite a bit. Down to specific grades in specific plastic. Are you using a browser or the phone app?

You just apply whatever filters you want. On the android app:

Just typing “PCGS CAC” in the search box works great for me on GC

It did the same for me on the Heritage site.

Both HA and GC have excellent auction archives/past sales, they are a little different but both easy to use and I consult them regularly.

I probably am being slow, but how did you get fields like Mint Mark to appear?. Here is what I see in the left-side search panel:

Yes, I know how to do this if I want one specific selection. But suppose I want Morgan dollars from the years 1878 and 1882, from the O or CC mints, and slabbed in PCGS CAC or NGC CAC. Setting up these combinations as individual searches would require 8 different saved searches. Is that just the way to do it?

I was using Safari on Mac. But I just opened Chrome on Mac. Got the same result. But tinkered a little more based on your feedback, and found that I need to select Coins > All Coins > US Coins from the Categories on the drop-down menu at the top left of the screen. I wasn't doing that. Now I see the same as what you have own your screen.

Thank you for your assistance. Appreciate it.

Searching for "O" doesn't really work on GC because it seems to also match OGH. That said, you can do just one search given the date range, TPG, and "CAC" keyword to narrow all this down, then visually search for the mint marks you're interested in.
