Another Morgan Toner goes for MOON-Money on GC - 4/26/26

Talk about a "Percentage Premium for a Toner". 1880-S MS66 PCGS Price Guide is at $400.

Gen 4.4 Holdered 15-20 years ago, and one can assume that it was sent to CAC at least once and failed?

Beautiful Bold Colors and apparent textile/bag toning.

Would this pass as NT today if sent in raw? Thanks

    Crazy.

I think it would straight grade if sent in raw as the colors are natural. The textile and bright colors helped spark a bidding war but I am still surprised at the final result.

More than a few times I’ve paid $500-600+ to play a round of golf, so who am I to critique how someone spends their disposable cash, but that’s simply nuts IMO.

Having that much premium for a toned coin is crazy! :open_mouth:

I think it's a lock that this coin, if sent in raw, would straight grade. Looks like all the hallmarks of natural Morgan toning to me. Certainly sold for way more than expected. I would have imagined maybe like $1300 - $1500 if this was a "guess the hammer price" thread.

It’s a textile toner. I like it, but not at that price! Not even close!! But, if the high bidder is happy, well then God bless him..😉

Dang! Where are these bidders when I'm trying to sell!! Exactly! Where oh where art thou brothers?
17 times price guide? Not in this lifetime or the next.

  • The premium seems terribly high to me - but that's just me. This is hardly my first time seeing a very common but canvas-textured Morgan sell for 20 times basal value.
