Hey guys, and thanks.....
I have a 1968 nickel with a stamp on Roosevelt's bust that appears to be a Shriners symbol,,,it's fairly deep punched from the tail side..... The tail side stamp is weak but says B Plural Unum......just curious to what it was

    From your description your coin has been damaged by the use of a counterstamp. It did not leave the mint with that symbol punched into it. Pictures would be most helpful.

    Howdy and welcome.

    This might be strange to read, but you have already described what it is. It is a Jefferson nickel that someone has counter-stamped. It was done after the coin left the US Mint.

    It's a 1968 nickel that someone stamped. Anyone can do it. The meaning may be known only to the person or club that did it. As Mark said, pictures might help. But it's also possible that it is meaningless to everyone but the person who did it.

    I'm surprised that no one so far has mentioned that it's Jefferson on the nickel rather than Roosevelt who appears on the dime. :D

    some clubs, organizations and marketers stamped stuff onto coins to give or sell to members and interested people

    a 1968 nickel has a Jefferson bust, Roosevelt is on the dime

    As already indicated, it's a privately added counterstamp.

    Some people like to say that there is no added value above face for modern counterstamps but that isn't the case. There is some modest value (a couple or a few dollars) to a collector of these.
