Those pictures look familiar. Did you post them very recently under a different forum username?

If true, (which, I’m sorry to say that I doubt), that’s quite a coincidence.

I think it was a different thread but same username. Wasn't this the "satin proof" guy? I think that thread got nuked which reset his post count.

That would explain it - thank you. And if that was the case, he was being truthful (even if not fully transparent) in answering “No” to my question “Did you post them very recently under a different forum username?”. So to that extent, I apologize.

    Harshly cleaned.
    Excellent date.
    Terrible preservation.
The previous and current caretaker of this coin are lacking in ability to preserve and maintain its originality.
    Kind of sad.

really hard to tell by those photos, but AU58 or low MS

  • Thanks to all for your answers . And yes I did get nuked in a different post but I didn't show this coin in that post and if I did I do not remember doing so since so many things were going on at the same time.
At any rate this coin in hand does not appear to be cleaned. And No Mr RedRocket I do not clean any of my coins... EVER !

  • As far as the suspected satin proof I'll just have to send it in to put all the specualtion to bed for now. but in the mean time here are a couple pics again of that coin .

In case this helps at all - I believe that you did post pictures of this coin in your other thread and asked about its VAM, while mentioning it was a rare variety. Is it graded MS62?

You are correct about the grade. So I must have posted it already which I honestly don't remember. Anyhow I was going to see what others thoughts were on the grade for this one before the reveal :) It's interesting to see all the differences in answers that are said.

  • It's Graded NGC-62 everyone, just seeing what Y'alls had to say about it B)

I asked about that grade because I thought you’d mentioned it in the other thread but I wasn’t certain. If I were to guess the grade without knowing it in advance, I likely would have said either AU58, shot 62 or MS62, shot 58 - in other words, either AU58 or MS62.

    I hear ya.
I think it should bump up one grade though it looks way better in hand and the cartwheel luster is amazing on this thing !

Luster aside, the coin’s obverse looks to exhibit too many conspicuous abrasions to merit a higher grade. It’s maxed out as a 62.

Also, you’d probably be better off starting a new thread for feedback on the 1836 $5, as it gets distracting (and sometimes confusing) when additional coins are added to a thread with a different subject coin.

  • @TallahasseeCoinClub Sorry for the confusion , this post is still about the 1921 Peace dollars grade. I only threw in the Gold 1836 Half eagle because I wanted to see if anyone had any idea about it instead of starting a whole new post on it; which
I will have get that listed to the right post.
