An hour ago I received the following info in an email from ebay...
"Start preparing: New coin condition requirements coming to eBay"
"We’re introducing standardized Condition requirements for Coins on eBay — designed to help you build buyer trust, improve visibility, and achieve stronger prices for your inventory."
"What’s changing?"
"When listing coins in the categories below, you’ll now use structured condition details instead of relying on item specifics to describe condition:
253 – Coins: US
256 – Coins: World
3377 – Coins: Canada
4733 – Coins: Ancient
18466 – Coins: Medieval"
"For graded coins:
You’ll need to include:
→ Grading company
→ Grade (letter + numeric) (required)
→ Certification number (optional)"
"For ungraded coins:"
"You’ll select from clear, standardized condition categories, such as:
→ Uncirculated
→ Extremely Fine to About Uncirculated
→ Fine to Very Fine
→ Below Fine"
"Why this matters for you"
"This update creates a more consistent buying experience and makes your listings easier to compare and discover.
Sell with more confidence → Buyers trust standardized condition
Get discovered faster → Improved search and filtering
Achieve better value → Clearer condition drives stronger pricing"
"Key dates to know"
"From early May – You’ll start seeing reminders in the listing flow
Early June – New listings must include condition requirements
Early July – Existing listings must be updated with condition requirements
Listings without condition data may be blocked or hidden after these dates."
"What you should do now"
"Start using the new condition options when creating listings
Review and update your existing listings
If you use third-party tools or integrations, ensure they’re ready for these changes"

Excellent.
This area of refinement for selling/buying was sorely lacking.
Standardized does not equal accurate, one could still call a cleaned XF as an UNC.

I just wish they would forbid the use of the word "rare" in describing coins.
Cool. I like change. I voted for it

I’ve seen listings where the seller describes a VF coin as Gem UNC. Unless someone over at eBay is going to police descriptions for accuracy, I’m not sure what eBay thinks this new policy will accomplish.
You think these will be filled out by sellers in such fashion that they will be useful to buyers? Sweet summer child. eBay already has item specifics- "Uncirculated" and "Circulated", for example. The coin below can be found if you select to filter listings by the 'Uncirculated" item specific.
Wish they would ban copies, counterfeits, and $35, 000 for 1944 cent. They must have lost a boat load of buyers because of the crap they allow these days.

Here's one result of a search filtering for "Denver mint" 1938 Buffalos. Prediction: "Standardized Condition" will be of practically no help to buyers whatsoever.
Agree. Very minor expansion of the current, MANDATORY, two grades.
