gotta give this company a shout-out. i no longer grade cards, but i remember the white room with padded walls i was admitted to while waiting for my submissions to return back in the day. not going to name any names, but there are companies attached to this great hobby of ours that could learn a thing or two about efficiency from James Spence. i recently fired off a handful of items to be authenticated and from the time they left my hand to the time they were back in it, one week. and i live a time zone away and did not pony up for expedited shipping. that's a very good way to get more of my money.
i see you JSA

@RufussCkingston i should Praise You
were they encapsulated?
IMF
I think they were scantily clad.
I now use CGC/JSA for my autograph slabs.. And doing well.
BUT... JSA absolutely sucks waiting on a letter on an item for three plus months, they have not been able to get that under control ! Inexcusable
no sir

My only experience with authenticating with JSA was at a card show. It was awful. The only guy manning their booth was this lazy, overweight young guy who was leaving things on the table that people submitted unsupervised. Before I noticed that, I was there early and submitted an auto ($150) to be graded. I came back a few hours later, and the 8x10 auto was just sitting on the table to the side (not back in the 8x10 top loader it had been in) with piles of unsupervised submitted autos. Anyone could have walked by and grabbed them, which makes it shocking that they did not.
So I walk up to the guy to express my annoyance at the fact that he left it to the side and did not even bother to put it back in its protected sleeve. He started pestering me to pay the $150 immediately and would not say anything else until I did. So I did, and then he got super defensive and then stated saying "it is the fakest fake of all fakes and blabbering on and on incoherently". At the time, I was very close to knocking the guy out, but also irritated that I had just spent $150 to authenticate this auto, and he said it was fake.
I should mention that prior to the pandemic, I took the same 8x10 to a JSA booth where a friend of mine knew the JSA guy (different guy). He walked the 8x10 up to him because the guy would verify it for him if it was real before submitting it. He verified that it was legit. I didn't submit it at the time because I was unaware that it would cost $150 to authenticate. I submitted the auto to Beckett later, and they verified it was legit.
JSA is now in bed with The CGC, 'nuff said

if your experiences with JSA haven't reached the bar, my sincere condolences. for what i collect and what i need them for, they perform admirably. and it happens quickly, which was the refreshing point of this thread. i've submitted my fair share of cards over the years, and at the very top of my list of things i refuse to ever endure again is a company that takes so long to fulfill a service they provide that you forget what you used them for in the first place. but, to each his/her own. we all traverse this hobby differently, and we all tolerate differently. it's a beauteous thing. 🤙
I'm not into autos at all. But my Dad purchased a Walla Walla Padre program with Tony Gwynns signature + 2 others at a yard sale for a buck and I had JSA authenticate it at a show in Humble, TX. Pleasant experience and done in a couple hours.
With everyones experience here do you have to fill out your submission forms on line and send them in, or can you print out blank forms fill them out make a copy for your records and send original with the items?
On a cool note, I have a Willie Mays uniquely signed baseball that I sent into PSA for authentication 23 years ago, and at the time I believe they sent them to JSA. I have the full letter and it is authenticated and signed by James Spence Jr. I think having his name on the letter is an awesome thing.
go to their website and fill out a submission form. you'll print it off and include it with your items.
Thanks for the response, the whole idea for me is to get away from filling everything on line. I don't have a printer so having a friend print it out and make copies when I need it would be great. I have alot of things to send in. It is the same with getting a bunch of coins graded. JSA, CGC,NGC are now the same company so same rules apply. I collect comic books also.
