Any good local shops along the Bourbon Trail? (Louisville, Bardstown, Lexington, Indy)

airplanenutairplanenut Posts: 22,645 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't know the last time I went to a local shop. I'm planning a trip to Kentucky (flying through Indianapolis) to visit some distilleries, and between a laid back schedule and some drives between locations, I thought it might be a good opportunity to stop at some shops if there may be any good ones. So... any recommendations for the area? I'll generally be driving this route over a couple of days:

I wasn't planning on trying to break in there... I expect security is pretty tight, what with the rise in spot prices and all.

I know you're asking about coin shops but stayed few nights here, asked if he had any bookers and he asked what year! https://www.threespiritstavern.com/

Welcome to Kentucky! I’m down the road in Elizabethtown. Don’t know of any good local stores, but driving by the gold vault is a pretty cool thing to do. Mammoth Cave and some of the race tracks (Churchill Downs, Keeneland) are also fun local spots.

There are a few in Cincy if you want to get off the path.

I doubt I'll detour to Cincy because of the yet more driving it entails, but I'll keep it in mind as the schedule forms. I got my first bottle of Bookers in December and boy is it good!

I've never been there; but, it might be interesting to visit Jeff Garrett at Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries.

I've meet him at the shows and he seems to be a decent guy.

I’m not sure a day of bourbon and coin shops is actually a great idea or not, but it sounds amazing for sure.

That whole stretch and much of south central Indiana has always been a little thin in shops and shows. Indy has enough to make up for it. I think Lexington has a couple old shops. There's a lot more through Cincinnati if you can deviate.

Be careful and don't drink too much bourbon or you might overpay for any coins that you buy.

We stayed a few nights in Bardstown two years ago. It was the closest town to Louisville that I could actually find a hotel room. I was attending the 150th Kentucky Derby (what a blast). We walked around town - didn't see an B&Ms. It’s a dang little town, but great bourbon isn't hard to find.

There is one in Louisville called Louisville Numismatic Exchange. I have only bought a couple coins from them off ebay, but it looks like they have a B&M (they have a picture of their storefront in their profile).

Thanks! They’re just a few blocks from my hotel.
