1963 Jefferson Nickel
Wondering if this coin is worth getting graded or not. I've had it for over 20 years and is in really nice condition.

Thank you for the replies. Guess it's just a coin to hold onto as it is pretty cool.

Here's a pretty cool BS 1963, PL and lightly toned. There are only a handful of business strikes (BS) /coins made to circulate that are commonly found with 6 steps. The are a few others if you search eternity for them. 1971 to present, they are found on most of those dates. Point is, if you set out to find a matching coin to the one you have, visit a B/M coin shop or attend a coin show or search through a few nickel rolls from a bank you would very likely eventually learn there's something peculiarly different about your coin, where it came from, how it was manufactured/made. Your coin appears to be a proof coin that has circulated due to the marks on the obverse. Early on collecting Jefferson nickels, I really believed I had a 1958-P BS with 6 steps. I almost fell out of my chair when an ANACS grader said "Proof 58! Our host here gave the opinion grade of MS65 on the coin below. And another way to tell a proof coin from a BS is by looking at the 3rd side. Leo

I wouldn't unless there is a reason you want it in a slab. Few from that year are worth more than the grading cost (unusually attractive color or very high grade).

In simplest terms, no. It is a proof though.

It's a nice coin but I wouldn't get it graded. But it depends on your goal. If it's to resell for higher value, definitely not worth it.
