The advantage of a disciplined ML bet. I think the spread was Michigan -6.5. If you played the spread, you would have gotten hooked, and lost it all. Instead, you've got $400 in your pocket.

thanks bud. generally speaking, i'm not a fan of spreads. couple that with me being risk-tolerant by nature, and i rarely play them as a result. it's a great move when a game plays out like the one last night, but all it takes is a string of dogs to bite and you've dug a sizable hole before you can blink.

I won't be betting heavy on any one player. Am going with Bryson top 5 and 10 for sure, and maybe to win as well. I also strongly considered Collin the same way as the Bryson play, but the more I read about his health uncertainty I omitted that idea. If he plays well so be it. But would not want to have a bet on him, playing well, only to have the health issue act up. Will scatter some other top 20 plays just to have some action and to back up my 5/10 play cost. Just want to have some action, make some cuts,be in it and enjoy the 4 days of coverage regardless how the plays pan out. I block out the 4 days for Masters viewing only.
Will post my final bets later.
    Good luck on your action.

Masters action:Bryson top 5,Top 10. Scottie win, only because of his odds. Can't let him slip by at 550. Top 20 on Hovland, Matsuyama,Reed.

I watched some of the Masters today. Rory was really solid. The way Scottie started out I thought he would be at least -5 after 18 but he stalled out.
I hope Xander finishes comfortably in top 20 for Galaxy but I hope either Scottie or Rory wins. And sorry blue jay but I’m glad Bryson finished +4, I just don’t like him and thought it was stupid he brought in no talent Kevin Hart to caddy for him on the par 3 contest. Hart thinks anything is funny as long as you yell it loud enough. And why is Jason Kelce there? He should be home helping take care of his kids. Tired of that Neanderthal showing up at every sporting event I want to watch. Anyway blue jay I hope you win your bets except for Bryson and Xander is looking good galaxy he just needs to stay consistent tomorrow and through the weekend.

ANGC showed its teeth yesterday afternoon. when it's dry, it's a firm & fast diabolical beast. so many implosions. Jon Rahm didn't make a single birdie. Aberg went from -3 to +3 in 5 holes. i saw Bob MacIntyre slam his club a handful of times and give a one-finger salute more than once. 66-year-old Freddy Couples was having a round for the ages when he reached 15 tee box at -2. three holes later, he was +6. Aldrich Potgieter is the longest hitter on tour (almost 330 per), and that prodigious length did him no favors on his way to an 84. that track is no joke, and it's only going to get more challenging over the weekend because there is no rain in the forecast. it may turn into a war of attrition, especially if the wind picks up.

granted there's 54 to go, but i'm glad you got in on Reed, blue.......i said i might, but didn't. wish i had now. ended up putting all of my eggs in the Xander basket.

    enjoy the tourney guys

My 3 top 20's are alive. What a dive for Bryson. Hope my top 20 bets come through. Should break even or make a few $ if they do. Scottie will come up short. Don't think ilhe is a lock anymore for win.

Yesterday turned out to be a great scoring day with benign conditions (no wind). my guy couldn't capitalize. still upset with myself for not pulling the trigger on Reed as well. glad you did. Hideki right there with Xander at -2. Hovland not too far back.

i think every golfer not named Rory is playing for 2nd place now

Also had Hovland for top 20. After Friday I had no illusions Scottie would win. Surprised he made it that close. Only threw a bet in on him at 550 when I saw those odds. Don't see that price on him that often. Apparently he did not do much with the par 5's on the back 9's on Saturday and Sunday.
My 3 top 20's all hit without any ties. Overall a small profit.
Glad to see you scored with X.

It would be so cool to see Justin Rose win next year. I was watching in 86 when Nicklaus won at age 46 and Rose is 45 now, time for him to stop knocking and bust the door open!
Also I have to be me so it’s time to kick dirtbag Sergio out of future Masters tournaments. He’s become a disgrace, playing the little brat when you’re 19 is bad enough but when you’re 40-50 or whatever he is, he’s just a clown.

top 5 nice guy on tour. i've seen it with my own eyes, and i've read countless stories. in fact, i read a tweet about him not too long from a guy who is head of a children's foundation. he told a story about Rose & his wife attending a fundraising dinner. after it was over, Rose walked up to him and quietly & unassumingly handed him a very healthy check. he wanted no one to know about it. well, this man said the statute of limitations had ended and he was ready to tell the world what type of person Justin Rose is. heck, you can watch any interview he gives and easily tell what he's made of.

was rooting hard for him to win yesterday. he was rolling along until he got to 11. he was sitting in the middle of the fairway, got spooked by the water on the left and flared one way right as a result. that resulted in a bogey and was the beginning of the end for him, unfortunately.

Also I have to be me so it’s time to kick dirtbag Sergio out of future Masters tournaments. He’s become a disgrace, playing the little brat when you’re 19 is bad enough but when you’re 40-50 or whatever he is, he’s just a clown.

and at the opposite end of the spectrum we have Sergio, who is simply a douchebag at this stage of his deteriorating career. he's thrown petulant tantrums like that many times over the years. he's nearing 50, has very little game left, and is largely irrelevant. unless he pulls a stunt like the one yesterday, that is. then we all realize he's still around, unfortunately.

Very even field at RBC this week. Tough picking. Scottie at least takes 1 of the top 20 spots so 19 left to pick from. Still working out my 3 or 4 picks.

Tough choices abound as 15-20 have a legitimate shot for top 20. Landed on Aberg top 10 and both Gotterup,Bhatia top 20. Scottie is 4-1.

Lose 6 out of 7 bets, and still make a nice profit.

    Well done! 👍

  • stevekstevek Posts: 31,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Fitzpatrick after round two, was +115 to win. He had a four stroke lead. I thought those were atrociously bad odds. I was considering placing a sizable wager on Kalshi against him winning. I don't think the major books allow you to bet on a negative outcome with golf. But I think Kalshi allows that because the bettors are wagering against each other, yes or no, on a specific outcome.

As mentioned I've been busy with a new project, and just didn't feel like going thru the hassle of opening an account with Kalshi, and wasting time following the dam results every five minutes which I know I would have done.

Fitzpatrick hasn't won it yet, but he's looking good right now with a three stroke lead, odds now at -280. I may have saved a lot of money for my non-bet. We shall see.

Sure looks like the books knew what they were doing with that +115 line. I very much doubt that any whales chose to bet that line, or almost anyone else for that matter. Of course it ain't over yet.

  • stevekstevek Posts: 31,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Fitzpatrick thru 12 still with a three stroke lead, now at -480.

I'd be crying my eyes out right now. Unless he blows up on these last six holes.

  • stevekstevek Posts: 31,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Now thru 13, Fitzpatrick is -650

Looks like I won't be throwing my computer into orbit. 😂

betting tip of the day, which each of you has no doubt heard a trillion times: bet with your head, not your heart

X-man has been a T20 machine since mid-February and i took advantage of that at the Masters. after that tournament was over my immediate thought was, "of course i'm running it back with him next week." then i started ruminating over the next couple of days, which was my downfall. next thing you know, i had gravitated to my favorite golfer, a guy who zigs when i zag and zags when i zig and isn't nearly as consistent as Xander is. yet i just couldn't help myself, because i wanted Jordan to play well AND i wanted to win $ in the process. don't do that. you can't will a player or team you like to victory by way of your bet. and that was the difference between me winning and losing.

the good news is that bluejay had another stellar week -- hit Aberg and Bhatia (dead heat rules don't apply to him, which is awesome), and was one shot away from cashing with Gotterup as well 🤘

btw, another thing that makes the Masters so great is the level of decorum. fans patrons don't act a fool because they know where they are and what's expected of them. but the moment that tournament ends, it's time to start getting drunk and acting like jackasses again. for the second time in as many months, Matt Fitzpatrick was subjected to asshats making it a USA vs. Europe thing. he was asked about it again after he took out Scottie, and once again he couldn't have answered the question any better. gotta be careful who you root against -- it may not affect them one iota and instead add fuel to their fire.

Firstly thanks for the recognition 👍. Sorry for your loss. Tough to separate emotion from betting. I've had cases where I bet against a horse wanting it to lose based on emotion, only having it defeat my play knowing full well the winner was the better play.
Had a moment of concern with Aberg's late double bogey.
Far as Scottie goes I saved a bet on him. As is my wont I usually follow up the next week on a previous bet loss on that player. Timing? In this case I passed as my Scottie bet in the Masters was a last minute non original play based on greed with his odds of 550-1. Thought I could catch him at a rare high win price. As we know he came up 1 short there as well as yesterday. His opening odds were 4-1 for the RBC, but I resisted temptation. So I was rooting for Scottie to finish second to confirm my choice to not bet him. And mentioned to my GF before Sunday play he would finish second, especially if I had him to win. So I escaped another win bet disappointment with him. It is difficult to run second 2 weeks in a row. I venture to offer this: I think last year's version of Scottie would of won one of these last 2 events.
On to team play next week.

And as a 7.5 point dog, on the road, and they come back to win by 5. A visitor from a distant galaxy would analyze that and say it's not possible. You'd have to explain that the laws of physics in the universe, don't apply to an NBA game.

In the NFL, I've had decent results live for or against a team, depending on various situations. While In the NBA, I've tried to figure out live, every which way but loose, and nothing seems to work. Basically what usually kills ya in the NBA is some obscure bench player that nobody except his mother ever heard of, suddenly gets hot, which throws all handicapping right out the window. Sometimes it benefits ya, but usually it doesn't.

I haven't kept exact tabs on this, but this live "bounce with a big lead" angle in the NBA seems to happen more often when the favorite with the big lead is playing at home. Not sure why being at home factors into this? Perhaps I'm only remembering those crazy games, and not other games when it evens out. IE the favorite with the big lead, just keeps getting a bigger lead as the game wears on.
