First, Robert E. Lee, on horseback, with Stonewall Jackson. Then Lee with McClellan.
Then Grant.
Then generic soldiers at Gettysburg, one Union, the other Confederate.

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!
Many times I have driven through Appomattox on the way home to visit my parents. The McLean house is a reconstruction; the original was dismantled, with plans to display it at the Columbian exposition, but that was never realized and it rotted on the ground.
On high ground overlooking the village is a small cemetery; one of the graves holds a Confederate soldier, Jesse Hutchins, who enlisted in the 5th Alabama, 5 days after Ft Sumter was fired upon. His regiment fought in many battles in the war, and he was killed on April 8, just before Lee's surrender.

I had a chance about 15 years ago to metal detect some of Lee's retreat within a few miles of Appomattox on private property. Found several confederate bullets, a few eagle buttons and a knapsack hook.

No 1865 coins here (not that I have good pix of, anyway), but these are from the right era, I suppose.
