I also want to mention Joe Torre again. He is criminally underrated as a player. From 1963 to 1974 he was an 9x all-star, MVP, Gold Glove, and a Batting Title. During this period, he hit .302, 225 home runs, 1042 RBIs while playing catcher and third base.
Bob Watson, Manny Sanguillen, Ralph Garr, George Scott, Ken Singleton, and Richie Zisk also should be mentioned if not already.
I used to play this baseball sim (Out of the Park), where you could run historical simulations. Playing that game helped give me an appreciation for players like the ones mentioned in this thread.
His mom and mine worked together at a local hospital (as nurses) and 10 or 11-year-old me got to go to the mom's house and meet him when the Angels were in town to play the A's. Sandy Alomar (Sr) was there too. Both super-nice men.
I saw one mention in this thread of Bobby Grich. If there were others I just missed them. He would be on the top of my list of players overlapping this period who really flew under the radar. That guy seems like a HOF lock to me yet he gets near-zero consideration.
Lots of names in this thread that deserve much more attention. Grich also has his RC in the tough 71 set.
