The Lincoln Cent Thread
Like a lot of collectors, Lincoln cents such as wheat pennies are what got us into this hobby. Whether you were starting an album or finding an old cent in the change, the Lincoln cent was the spark that lit the fuse to the curiosity of coin collecting. It is what got me interested in old coins with history. Let’s give the Lincoln cent a thread it deserves!

Plucked from circulation between 1963 and 1966 while I was in the Cub Scouts, this is the oldest Lincoln cent in my original collection that still shows traces of mint luster.

Thank you. I’ve been skeptical regarding most varieties, and will remain so. My issue is the extreme subtlety in most cases. However, I now see a number that clearly stand out as “different” that I was unaware of. Very enlightening. I have an expanded type set and am always looking for substantive design changes (intentional changes). Any excuse to buy coins.

In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

AFAIK all LSCs are mounted with the shield showing on the front.
correction: unless it has something going on with the obverse [e.g. extra V, etc], PCGS & NGC do but, ANACS does not.

AFAIK all LSCs are mounted with the shield showing on the front.
Well, okay. I think you can also request the TPG'ers to place the coin in the holder in any position you like.
EDIT: If an error or variety is on the reverse of the coin, I like that facing or positioned on the front of the slab.
