I think the Bigfoot 3 cent nickel is more of a grail.

Nah I'm not going to read that whole thing, but I would bet "treasure" and "moonshine still" got mixed up in a conversation somehow.

I think a few rural locales have similar tales. In Western North Carolina it is the Shelton Dollar, named for Duck Shelton. The story reads very similar: deep woods, long lost caves, silver mines....

See these two postings from the E-Sylum. One of these mentions a Rich Hartzog catalog that had one. As I recall the auction had a picture of the piece. The catalogue might be available from the ANA Library.
