Somehow this issue escaped my attention until recently. I picked up some BASF Laker cards for a good friend to fill in his Magic and Laker collection. I am starting to really dig them myself.
1982/83 was the one year that did not have a basketball set produced, so these 1982 are pretty interesting. 1981/82 Topps was the last Topps issue, and then 1983/84 Star Company started. So these are the only options for these respective players for 82/83...and it is a pre Star Company James Worthy rookie card.
It is a regional issue. Are there any LA people on here that were getting these when they were first distributed? Do you know first hand how they were initially distributed?

I remember local folks having them in collections. They were easily obtainable from the music stores named at the bottom. I have a small pile of Magics buried somewhere in a box.
I'm a big fan of these, have all 3 Lakers team sets from 82-85.
The "'83" Star All-Star Team is an '82-'83 season set. It might have been produced in '83 but that's the '82 All-Star game depicted. Very little known fact. Love the BASF cards though.

There don't seem to be many high grade BASF cards out there.
I doubt there's much of an interest in these as a chase mechanism for cash. If you check out the recent eBay sales, you'll see that they don't go for that much. There are several overpriced Buy It Now for sale, but they won't sell. The BASF cards were giveaways at record stores throughout L.A. during the time period. The Lakers were insanely popular back then. You could literally walk into a Warehouse Records and grab a stack of them right from the counter. FREE! The Pop reports show that there are some collectors who do want them graded. As collectibles, they are cool. But, not rare. Not even close. There are thousands upon thousands "out there". If you want them, they shouldn't be too hard to locate from a dealer.
