Could airport TSA lines w multi- hour waits affect CSNS show attendance ?

The media states the TSA wait lines could increase to 4-5 hours wait time at major airline hubs. Aside from this, the burden is increased by older aged dealers and collectors standing and shuffling forward for hours and the many dealers hauling heavy briefcases & roller cases.

This will very likely impact CSNS attendance for those flying in. That plus ever- increasing flight fares. Just saying…

It’s a legitimate topic. Legend posted this on their blog a few days ago: Legend canceled attendance at the PCGS Invitational Show in Phoenix. Traveling right now with coins and TSA issues did not seem like the right thing to do.

@jmlanzaf where is the “over the top political rant” you’re referring to?

OP raises a legitimate point. Both collectors and dealers who may have been “on the fence” about attending may be more likely to bail, both because of travel/airport chaos and increasing costs.

You do know it’s not requirement to participate in every thread, right?

I didn’t realize you were bringing baggage against OP in from other threads. I don’t follow the forum tabloids that closely.

I'd say it will. Less and less want the aggregation of the b.s and want to relax

Isn't the obvious subtext that someone or some people are to blame for the long wait times? That is certainly what is on the OP's mind.

It is ultimately no different than the other (closed) thread about the weather impacting show attendance.

Will his next thread be asking how the price of gasoline will impact people's ability to get to coin shows?

Funny you mention that, already came up on the NGC forum. :D

Well, the TSA funding lapse wasn’t an act of nature, so certainly there ARE people to blame, but OP left them nameless. It sounds like OP has made a lot of enemies in other posts that I haven’t followed, but the only things that have made this particular thread political are other members’ comments. I suggest keeping squabbles to where there is appropriate context so that others may engage in civil conversation here and elsewhere. I’m still waiting for someone to point out the over the top political rant in this thread—or was it just inferred subtext?—because it can’t be both.

  • This topic is fair game, the same as attendance at Long Beach, lack of nonstop flights to OKC, safety in Baltimore and Covid in Florida.

And while the causes of the TSA shutdown are political, this forum needs to focus on the real implications for collectors and dealers.

My understanding is that TSA gets paid roughly 2nd and 4th Fridays, with a bit of a lag. That means they
    1. Missed a partial paycheck February 27
    2. Missed a full paycheck March 13
    3. Will miss another full paycheck March 27 (tomorrow)
    4. Might miss a fourth paycheck April 10
    5. Fifth paycheck would be April 24, right in the middle of the CSNS.

That leads to an obvious concern about April 24.

If the TSA (government) reopens within three weeks, TSA employees will be getting a massive back check in the middle of the CSNS show on April 24. No problem.

However, if the TSA employees miss a FIFTH CHECK on April 24, I want nothing to do with O'Hare airport, and I will make sure the hotels know it is their Congresspersons who cancelled the reservations.

Worth noting that CSNS is the only major show this year that isn't on the East Coast. It should be an absolute banger if the airports aren't shut down at that point.

While the op has had a history of some political leaning posts, this is a possible real world issue for both collectors and dealers. I read today that if this is not solved very soon Sec Duffy many have to close down some smaller airports to reallocate TSA agents to the larger ones like O'Hare. Either way the lines are likely to get longer not shorter and if not resolved very soon could make it more difficult for travelers flying from smaller airports. I suspect that most collectors and dealers will just deal with the hassle, but some may decide to skip if they deem the juice not worth the squeeze.

Increased air fare along with absorbingly long wait lines will decrease travel to this show. Patience wears thin. I do see it affecting the attendance overall.
The only caveat is if Spring Break travels are not a significant factor.

Yes of course it could - if continued. I predict the problem will be solved well before the convention.

You mean that is not the way everyone else travels? I've been doing it wrong... :o
