1916 Buffalo Nickel Double Die Question

The 1916 Double Die is one of the last two coins I need to complete my set of Buffalo Nickels my set averages ms 63 to ms 67 with the 1918/7-d and 1935 double die in au 55 I do not know if I should get the 1916 in a lower grade ( I am looking at a fine 15 cac ) or wait for a au 50 and up I would like some feed back thank you

This just a question of how much do you want your set to match and what kind of a hurry are you in to complete it?
If your other DDs are AU and your patience and budget can stomach it, I would wait for the AU.
If you’re ready to be done, get the Fine one and be done and happy.
I guess it depends upon how much you need to fill the slot, how easily it will be to find an acceptable AU50, if the AU50 has to be CAC or not and how much the ~$12-15K is worth to you as a placeholder. If you require a CAC stickered example, as per the F15 grade you mention, then you are hunting for perhaps a dozen or two dozen coins going through to the AU50 grade, which I assume would make it difficult to find a nice piece.

I agree with what has been said; It's your set and your hobby so it comes down to your preference.
If you don't really care about the variety, you could also skip it altogether and consider your set finished as is.
Do you really want to spend money on a variety?
If cost is not an issue, hold out for AU so it matches the rest of your set. And it would have to be a Bean. My set is primarily AU, but I never drop below XF, because I want a matching set (within reason).

Better to have one than none toward completion. And as often or as rarely as they come available is the opportunity to upgrade. At least you’ll have one, for the time being.

Thank you for your comments I missed out on a au 50 cac right before the Whitman coin show I am no hurry to finish the set I will wait until the right coin comes along if any one knows where I could find one in au 50 or better please let me know again thank you

You've gone this far......................collectors that have what you are looking for probably won't part with theirs. One might pop up if an estate ever becomes available in the future.
I guess what I'm saying is good luck to you. I sincerely hope that your dream comes true.

My set is mostly XF-BU but the 16DDO is just a full date VG details and I'm happy to have it. Upgrading would require a win at powerball. Good luck on your search.
