The only person who says "it's time to move on from JJ McCarthy" must be the guy who works for the Jets, the Browns or maybe the Giants. A "bust" QB just won the Super Bowl and Daniel Jones was having a great, or at least very good, season before getting injured.
I am assuming the Vikings are NOW going to let J J learn behind a veteran starter? Unless Murray gets hurt or is horrible, I'm guessing Kyler's going to be our starter week 1.
I am not a cap guru, but the Vikings seem to be completely out of money even after restructuring some contracts, Ryan Kelly retiring due to injury and letting several starters go. The cap reports have been saying we barely have any money for signing draft picks and in season signings.
Not sure what happens for next years cap. Signing Murray at the league minimum does now make perfect sense to me, especially when the guy I liked for a back up or veteran starter, Marcus Mariota, just signed for $7M.
Serious questions;
If Kyler Murray plays well, do the Vikings sign him to a long term contract?
If he leads us to a Super Bowl do the Vikings sign him to a long term contract?
If he leads us to a Super Bowl win do the Vikings sign him to a long term contract?
We still need a center. I can't find out anything on left tackle Christian Darrisaw's knee problem. Probably wont until training camp.

The big difference between a Baker or Darnold is that were were studs in college where McCarthy just wasnt
I think the bigger question would be if Murray were to have a stud year like those two did on a new team would the Vikings be able to make the AAV work to resign him even if it was only like a 3-5 year deal
From afar, I also don't care for Kyler Murray. Too small, concerns with commitment, his WRs don't excel or put up good numbers and he seems to just improvise. He may drive Justin Jefferson crazy...and could accelerate KOC getting fired.
However, at $1.3 million it was a no-brainer to sign him & he made their QB room better than 2025 season.
My guess is both JJM and Murray will start games next year due to their injury history.

Agreed. IF he can stay healthy (see above about O line). I would be more concerned if he hadn't played better at the end of last season against those poor defenses. THAT would have bothered me.

They didn't/couldn't afford to sign Darnold after a 14 win season, Jefferson just restructured his contract. There might not be much money left if Murray has a great season.
My hope is that JJ wins the QB battle and stays healthy while progressing into a solid NFL QB.

i liked watching Murray in high school. he was always the best athlete on the field. never lost a game. then he went to OU and had more success by virtue of the Heisman. i don't know if he still is now, but at one time he was a legit sub-4.4 guy. has a big arm for a small guy. makes accurate throws. doesn't turn the ball over often. a few years ago when the Cardinals came out of the blocks at 8-0, he was on the tip of everyone's tongue when it came to MVP talk. then, the team completely cratered and so did he. from that point forward it was as if he -- and the entire organization -- started spiraling into the abyss. it was truly hard to tell if it was him, the team, the coaches, the ownership, or a combination of all. i tend to think it was a combo. honestly, i'm not sure how any QB can thrive in Arizona. they are a moribund franchise. Bill Bidwill is one of the worst owners in all of sports. i think he was the only one to receive an "F" in the NFL report card that recently came out. how can anyone max out their potential in a losing culture like that?
with that said, there have been clear downsides to Murray. he has acted like a punk many times over. i guess when you've been drafted in the first round of two different sports, it's hard to stay grounded and prevent your head from inflating. everyone knows about the study clause that was inserted into his contract. his leadership is very questionable as a result. on top of all this, he's been hurt a lot. he has never looked quite the same after shredding his ACL. probably doesn't run a 4.38 anymore, and that's a huge part of his game. then of course there's the height issue. i think if he was 6'2" he'd be a menace. unfortunately it's more like 5'9", and honestly i don't see how anyone can play quarterback in the NFL at a high level when you have a hard time seeing gazelles streak across the field.
with all of that said, here's my unbiased take. i think his time in Arizona was a bad marriage. i think he's been completely humbled and is highly motivated. he's upgrading teams, owners, coaches and teammates. a change of scenery making a difference is a real thing. Sam Darnold was considered a bust until he escaped New York & Carolina hell. it can and does happen. O'Connell has had a knack for getting the most out of QBs -- look no further than the aforementioned Darnold, Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones. to this point it hasn't happened with McCarthy, and i think that's why Kyler is there. Minnesota has bullets in the offensive chamber, and they can't afford to waste another year of Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson while they are in their primes. so adding a former #1 pick who is still only 28-years-old at a cost of $1.3 million was almost an impromptu move for Minnesota.
Murray is tantalizing, but he's also been a tease. can't wait to see how this shakes out.
Very true, but he was not asked to do it. That doesn't mean he CAN'T do it.
They certainly didnt, but theres a very high likelihood that they didnt because they didnt believe he could given that he didnt in HS either. Maybe he can do it with the amount of stud weapons the Vikings have, but after seeing him for years hes Im at the point where ill believe it when I see it.

Thats pretty much what I figured that one way or another Murray was going to be a 1 and done there. Either he sucks and they dont want him back or hes good and cant make it work. I dont think they even offered Daniels a contract. I just hadnt been following how much they had done to trey and free up cap space getting creative reworking contracts and signing bonuses etc.
This draft is a pretty weak if theyre stuck in a position where they can only have QBs on rookie contracts. It did get stronger though with Nussmeier declaring for the draft and could be an answer going forward that should be around in the 2nd or 3rd round. Was a stud two years ago then stock took a hit with some injuries last year

Vikings have signed a "swing tackle" from the Bills. Finally addressing the offensive line. Looks like he's a better run blocker than pass protector. Rated higher than the guy who filled in for Darrisaw at left tackle last year.
Good signing. Now we need a true center. Looks like the draft? I hate depending on a rookie to immediately start. We haven't done well drafting centers.

I am not familiar with either, but we have drafted a couple of centers, Elflein and Bradbury, pretty high and neither one was very good. Bradbury might have been serviceable if he didn't have a horrible guard on either side of him. He was still a poor pass blocker.

I expect the Vikings to go for a corner or maybe safety in the first. I would go with Logan Jones anyways and he’s probably there in the 3rd. That kid is athletic and I think he’s the best of the bunch.

Theres never going to be a consensus on interior O line men but a lot have the FL and Auburn guy 1 and 2 and theyre both big boys. A lot of the scouting has the FL guy described as NFL ready for pass protection. Theres another guy from Iowa thats up there.
Given that really only tackles get taken in the first round for O line I would expect them all to be there in the second and probably at least one in the third or forth

They could potentially get both with a 2nd and 3rd round pick if thats the route they want to go. Both are big enough that they could move one to guard if they wanted too. I like the FL guy the most. Aside from being described as NFL pass blocking ready and very strong at reading defenses for more than a year he had very good games against Georgia, Tenn, and Ole Miss and all three of those have/had NFL players on their D line. Plus is the Vikings arent throwing the ball a lot what are they even doing
I expect the first round to be pretty defense based with all the edge guys and DL coming out. Theres really only two QBs that deserve first round picks with Nuss and Mendoza, but teams always act like a pretty girl just said hi to them for the first time when it comes to drafting QBs so well see there.
Couple tackles, couple WR, couple secondary, edge guys, at least one QB possibly a line backer. Id be very comfortable waiting until the second round for a center

Realistically the Vikings have a higher pick than their number. Mendoza, the Bama LT and the OSU safety will all be taken for sure before they pick. Baine from Miami should go ahead of them as well and theres quite a few EDGE guys that I would expect to be taken over a DT.
Theres 3 really good corners from Tenn, LSU and Clemson. One should be there and the ND RB could easily be taken ahead of the Vikings pick
If they want to go DT I think they will have their choice with the Clemson and FL guy being the top 2. The FL had a foot surgery and missed a lot of the season but it wasnt anything major. Texas Tech OSU and Bama have a DT as well that are up there but would be an over draft in the first.
They likely will have to make a choice though, DT or CB in the first and center in the second or center in the first and hope the Clemson or FL DT is still there in the second

Country on country hockey is definitely the best especially if fighting is allowed. The NHL fdid kind of ruin hockey a bit with all the rule changes to score more and less violence but soccer is unwatchable outside the world cup with all the flopping. Dudes act like they just got sniped from the rafters and are on their death bed then are running full speed 10 seconds later
European football aside. The best fans in the universe are Packers fans. So the question I am looking forward to being answered is how much are these firsts really worth. The pack need a CB. And they need a nose tackle who can stuff the run. But otherwise this is a team that can run it back stronger than last season if Parsons can get back in time for a run. Maybe we can sign McCarthy as the Vikings seem desperate to drop this kid. So bs that he’s posting workout videos on insta. It’s like watching a bad breakup.
While I’m not a proponent of faking injuries to buy time or for other less frequent reasons I’m also aware that it’s a strategic part of the game which is still mostly allowed under the current rules. It’s just highly subjective. The governing bodies would like to get rid of this controversial practice for sure. That said it’s still a part of the game, used for strategic purpose such as: winning penalties, getting players sent off, disrupting momentum, or simply wasting time. This is not something that players are out there doing. This is how some teams operate. Until FIFA/IFAB are able to remove it from the game teams which don’t do it are at a disadvantage.

yes, I sure am. I have tried over the years, it just doesnt do it for me. the comparison to soccer is really because of the way the sports "flow" few resets, not too many set plays. Basketball can be seen in that light, but there are "plays" run very frequently as opposed to the free flow of Soccer and hockey.

Hockey is a violent sport. I don't look forward to the fights, but admit they are exciting. It wouldn't bother me if they outlawed fighting, although some would say other fouls would increase.
The cheap shots that are allowed are worse in my opinion. You have goons that intentionally try to injure the best players and they usually don't get more than a major penalty, even if the other player is seriously injured.

Serious questions;

Justin Fields has been traded to KC.
I still have faith that JJM will be the guy.

I didn't realize Kenneth Walker is with KC now, that is huge for them
i liked watching Murray in high school. he was always the best athlete on the field. never lost a game. then he went to OU and had more success by virtue of the Heisman. i don't know if he still is now, but at one time he was a legit sub-4.4 guy. has a big arm for a small guy. makes accurate throws. doesn't turn the ball over often. a few years ago when the Cardinals came out of the blocks at 8-0, he was on the tip of everyone's tongue when it came to MVP talk. then, the team completely cratered and so did he. from that point forward it was as if he -- and the entire organization -- started spiraling into the abyss. it was truly hard to tell if it was him, the team, the coaches, the ownership, or a combination of all. i tend to think it was a combo. honestly, i'm not sure how any QB can thrive in Arizona. they are a moribund franchise.

Murray, Tua, and Fields will be the week 1 starters for their respective teams. You can bank it.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.

I'm looking forward to Baseball
Vikings have signed a "swing tackle" from the Bills. Finally addressing the offensive line. Looks like he's a better run blocker than pass protector. Rated higher than the guy who filled in for Darrisaw at left tackle last year.
Good signing. Now we need a true center. Looks like the draft? I hate depending on a rookie to immediately start. We haven't done well drafting centers.
Take the FL or Auburn guy and call it a day as far as centers go
Fire AJ Preller
Looking forward to 4 golf majors, NBA finals, opening day baseball.
Fire AJ Preller
That's good news. The Vikings got some compensatory picks and hopefully they have a new person in charge of evaluating guys eligible for the draft.
Maybe they can get one or both of these guys!
Fire AJ Preller
That sounds promising.
A lot of people here are wanting a defensive back chosen for their first pick. If what you say is true about good centers available in round 2, I would rather see a stud defensive tackle chosen in round 1.
Who do you see available at 18 when the Vikings are up?

The Seahawks have given JSN $168 million.

The fewer words version is “I know nothing about strategy in soccer but here’s my hot take”. Cringe.
Defending fake injuries and taking dives is a new low I didnt have on my bingo card for the year
Fire AJ Preller
