Hopefully this serves as a notice to any postal worker thinking about going off the rails.
Add:
"...the two exchanging text messages identifying specific items to steal and discussing how to steal and conceal them, which included U.S. currency."

Greed will override any common sense people have always had and always will, no matter what they may face later down the road. These two are good examples of this statement
1997-present
They get what they deserve...
They worked at the "dead letter office" so the mail they were pilaging was already lost to the sender and receiver. (In theory, if they open the mail and there is something of value and there is something inside to identify the sender/receiver then they are supposed to try to redirect it).
These were dishonest people and I'm glad they were caught, but they were not the source of the kinds of mail thefts that are reported here.
Like their jobs that are dead now as well 👎, not worth it
During my 36 years as a postal employee, I've seen many come and go. Postal Inspectors even escorted some out the front lobby in front of customers.
It never ends.
Eventually the bad apples get caught. Unfortunately, all the damage they have done never goes away.

Why take this kind of risk. They had good jobs. Likely a nice pension in the works.
I wonder what kind of sentence they will get.
Will they do time?
I sure hope so. Filing a false tax document for a PPP loan. Thats no joke.
It seems that they have done some bargaining on the charges.
