    It used to be widely understood that Confederate Generals were much more effective by almost any measure. Grant understood the math though, which is why the Union had 100k+ more dead than the South. Winners write the history books.

    The south was legally right and morally wrong. That’s where I’d leave it.

    General Lee was not a traitor. Read the Declaration of Independence and history books other than the "yankee" ones.

    My source is the 1860 U.S. Census. The enslaved accounted for 38.69% of the population of the South. In Mississippi and South Carolina, they were actually a majority.
