Newest Addition...After 40 Years...My 1879-CC GSA Morgan

And in all likelihood, the last GSA Morgan slot I will ever fill in my life.
When I was a teenager, in the days before grading and slabbing and accurate pops, I probably had several of these pass through my sweaty little hands but let them go...instead choosing to first fill a few easier/cheaper holes instead.
Who really knew back then how "rare" really translated into actual numbers?
But anyhow, I'm extremely happy now.
PS...the rest of my GSAs are PL...but I guess I'll just have to "settle" for this!

Congrats! That's a beautiful coin that looks like it was well worth the wait.
Congrats, well done on that job then
Some funny history...for years, as a kid, I worked across the street from Macy's flagship Herald Square store. And upstairs was an old school coin and stamp counter tucked away near the Post Office counter (if you can believe it). And it was always manned by two little old men who wore their Coke bottle glasses around their necks on a chain.
Well anyhow, this being not many years after the actual GSA sales, they would have these in stacks tied with rubber bands under the counter. So every once in a while at lunchtime, I would toddle over there and peruse the GSAs they had. And if I paid more than $150 for any given coin...PLs, DMPLs...straight UNCs...all the same price, all ungraded (of course)!
Now I cringe at how many gems I probably handed back to them because $150 wasn't cheap (for me) back them.
And they always laughed at me for asking for the GSA boxes and COAs...LAUGHED! "Are you buying the coins or the boxes?"
And I have all the Macy's analog cash register receipts to prove it!
Congratulations and from what I can see, the coin looks quite nice for the grade.

Nice! That's one of my favorite Morgan date/mm
From the photo that look like a very choice for the grade coin, congrats.

Congrats. Always cool when you catch the white whale
Nice, not many of those around...
Congratulations and quite a nice coin for the grade.
I've never played the resubmit and regrade game...but I also thought this was quite a nice 62. Since it was graded quite a few years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if it might actually make 63 by today's standards.
But I'll let my kids play that game.
Hey RichR, as others have noticed, that truly is a nice MS62 sample.
Plus I enjoy the GSA Morgans. Thanks for sharing.
Neat to read the past stories about Macys etc.. $150 was alot of money back then !!

Re Macy's...an 1890CC GSA MS63PL...$170 in 1991!
And I bet I handed back a couple and just bought one of them!!!
