Well, no as to what's on the label.

And yes a mechanical error when it comes to how CAC slabbed it in a Huge holder with a HUGE coin gasket - Ridiculous...
    Holder: 5" x 5-3/4" x 1.5" x 1 lb
Coin gasket: 1-1/8" deep = FAIL. The gasket reminds me of a skateboard wheel. An anti-edgeview holder.

  • CoinscratchCoinscratch Posts: 10,634 ✭✭✭✭✭

@Rc5280 You'll need three more wheels. Wow! I don't even know what to say about that.

  • Rc5280Rc5280 Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭✭✭

They've got to change that coin gasket, it detracts and buries the coin/medal.

JMO - this thread had a long, even great run! But it’s essentially been “dead” for over a month. Reviving it might draw some interest, but more than likely not. Again, JMO. Have at it (& I would love to be proven wrong)!

Let's stick with the 1850 $20 Liberty Head above - my guess is XF40

have to agree, overall, but throwing in an VF-30 for this one.
Too much wear and tear for EF grades.

This thread could lay dormant for 20 years and once again re-emerge so until the mods close it or turn out the lights.

It’s not in a VF35 slab but that’s how I valued it. This is a recent pick from Stack’s at $4800… not too bad a premium over melt for a first year double eagle. There’s some luster but I don’t have the coin in-hand yet so I’m hoping it’s not been cleaned.

  • Rc5280Rc5280 Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭✭✭

Welp, it's been 24 hrs and no correct guesses.

OK, so I have the $20 in hand. Coin does not appear to be cleaned and does have some original luster around the protected devices, especially on the reverse.

Question: do I crack it and submit it to PCGS risking a lower grade or leave it as-is?

I might just leave as is. I have about 8 ICG coins (US and World) but their MV each is less than $100 each. Like them / they stack nicely. I leave them as is.

If submitting something like yours - I would specify a minimum grade. I would want to also void a details designation.

I probably would leave as is as a bullion investment. However it seems worth more. Just put a code on back for cost and CPG MV.

No correct guess was declared for the $20 coin above, but it was revealed.

Above that my guess was declared correct for the '44-P Nickel.

MS66; the scuff(?) above the U in TRUST as well as the marking in-between the stars that are below the N in UNITED, as well as below the branch on the reverse keep it from being higher IMO

Agree, but the overall look whether strong strike and luster or just really good lighting plus it's NGC.
    could be higher 7*

True; I think it's at the point of condition where it really depends on the grader and not a unanimous grade. I could honestly seeing it either being MS66 or MS67, plus or star designations (at least for MS66) are possible, if so, likely a plus grade, but of course that's a bit of a stretch IMO at least!
