I bought these out of an old collection a while back. Not super expensive coins, but nice. What do you all think of the toning? They were stored in old paper envelopes for decades.

    He’s asking our thoughts about the toning, and this forum gets a lot more attention than the world forum, so I don’t see a problem.

    The toning looks fine, but the overexposed images may be hiding an old cleaning some of them may have had.

    I understand your point. However, a lot of topics would receive more attention here than on other forums. But that, in itself, doesn’t make them on-topic, here. Opinions about the toning on these coins could have just as easily and more appropriately been solicited on the World & Ancient Coins forum.

    It is hard to comment about the toning unless the photos really reflect what they look like in-hand.

    This is an 1891 Florin that has attractive toning. Our host graded this one MS64. I thought it was worthy to share to help with your toning question and even perhaps how the coins might grade if you choose to submit them.

    Yes, my fortune was unbelievable - that was an ex-Glendinning piece from their sale some 26 years ago. The others pretty fair with the halfpenny being one of the two satin specimen coins struck, the 1920 proof shilling is the "duck tailed" piece & possibly unique with the last being the reverse of a 1965 penny struck in copper-nickel.
    I will say that the 1839 was gotten thanks to the help of the late Colin Cooke who was my agent at the Glens sale, and would also like to thank him again for all he did to help me so many years ago.

    British coins are just so beautiful. They truly have fine workmanship, and when complimented by natural toning they are truly prizes in numismatics.

    Here's a 1901 florin, NGC MS65, which I used to own in the 1901 British Empire type set I assembled for my daughter, Victoria (b. 2001).


    Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

    Great color!
    This one had a nice underlying blue/orange tone on it for being a VF20
