Not really as it takes way from needed spring training time with their teams!

It does but the other side of it is they are getting in real live baseball at a high level which helps get them ready imo

Team USA was lucky they drew 17 walks against Brazil or the game would have been a lot closer. Kind of cool seeing Manny Ramirez son hit 2 homers.
Looking forward to USA playing Japan and whipping them.

I know the purpose is to grow the game but I like it more in the second round. I dont need to see teams like Czechia just get ,massacred every game

Just started watching it last night. A good warmup to the season viewing wise. Just hope no major injuries befall any team USA players. Or any players for that matter.

i have caught parts of games. caught the PR walk-off in the 10th, and the end of brazil and GB (sharing the tv is caring)

i like it because it's a "world" game. ask me after a few more wbc's and I might be getting tired of eithe usa or japan taking turns destroying the rest.

I dont have any interest at all except for waiting on pins and needles for it to be over without any players being injured because of ramping up too soon/quickly.

I would not risk any of my players health for a meaningless tournament before the real season even starts. not worth it. at all

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,284 ✭✭✭✭

I agree with you completely. Most of our good players are involved in that thing and even one of them getting hurt could ruin the Red Sox season.

Tell the guys representing their countries that it doesnt matter. Sure theres some throw away teams but the Latin, Asian, and North American teams care. Its all voluntary, they all want to be there

They really dont have to ramp up much. Some of the position players might play a little extra. The pitchers are all on pitch counts and doing the same thing theyd be doing in a spring training start. Its not like they would be throwing 80 mph meatballs in a spring training start.

It also gives minor league prospects and some foreign players a chance to raise their status. A owner lockout is almost certainly coming but when baseball returns to the Olympics in 2028 and MLB players will probably play in that too.

Spring training wins or losses mean nothing this year , not that they do anyway, as all the best players are not with their teams! I just pray none of them get hurt playing for this meaningless collection of games because of some stupid and needless play!

Showing the world why he was awarded the platinum glove. Also had 2 doubles and a walk but kept getting stranded at second base.
Would like to see Bobby at short again tonight with Gunnar at either 3rd or 2nd base.
Judge has been showing up also. He’s been a great captain, gunned a runner down at third base with a perfect throw and is hitting really well.
Can’t wait for the Italy game with Vinnie Pasquintino and Jac Caglione of the Royals playing for them.

Teams dont want their stars getting moved around which is why they split time. If it was the semi or the final maybe but now now. USA basically has the first spot clinched. 2nd is the worst they could finish so theyre assured to move on, but the only way they dont finish first is if Italy beats both the USA and Mexico which isnt happening

Is that so? Looks like Gunnar is at third tonight just like I hoped. Bregman hasn’t been hitting so good to give him a rest. Weird that you thought Gunnar would only be playing SS.

Bregmans the only 3rd basemen on the roster. Either Henderson told them before the tourny he would do it or volunteered. DeRpsa isnt just unilaterally benching guys and moving them based off performance, especially not in the first round

Even though Italy is basically an American born MLB team this is absolutely pathetic what actual pieces of dog you know what the USA pitchers have been. They cant throw strikes, they arent setting up pitching tunnels, they cant make plays

They better hope that the Americans playing for Italy beat Mexico cus USA is doing the only thing they could do giving up this many runs to get themselves eliminated if they dont pull off a massive comeback

It was nice seeing Caglionne have a great game. That kid needs some confidence going into the season, but it would have been nice if USA had won. Really needed Judge’s bat yesterday and he didn’t come through. Harper either pinch hitting.

i guess if your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather's dog came from the Bahamas you can go play for Great Britain if you want since it was under British rule 55 years ago

Italys requirement is basically if youve ever eaten pasta before you can play. That was basically a team USA intersquad game

Need Italy to beat Mexico now/

USA basically had the tie breakers all locked up which they are weird until they decided to give up 8 runs. McLean, Yarbourgh, and Keller were god awful. Keller made a bad throw on the come back double play but Witt has to catch that it was an easy hope. Should have been an out at least or the very least knocked it down and kept it out of CF whiffing giving up more runs. If any one of those three pitchers werent god awful USA wins that game

As usual basebal21 doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I guess everyone knows Witt is my favorite player but basebal21 saying it was an easy hop? I have to come to Bobby’s defense.
Here’s the throw from Keller hitting the ground well in front of second base…

So if it took an easy hop to Witt then why is the ball so close to the ground right before it reaches second base? Because the ball didn’t hop it skipped low to the ground and hit the front edge of the bag and then jumped up. Bobby barely had time to react.
The ball right before it hits the bag……

And now the ball right after it hits the bag and bounces up. How is Witt supposed to field that ball?

  • DarinDarin Posts: 7,587 ✭✭✭✭✭

In fact look at how quick Bobby reacted. His glove basically right above the base and then in a split second look how high above the base as the ball hits the edge of the bag and bounces up.
Sorry but not even Ozzie Smith fields that terrible throw.

I agree they need to tighten the requirement, but the Olympics does the same thing. There were some teams like Japan, Cuba, USA where its all birth country but yea some are really bad Italy has 2 Italian born players and 2 Venezulians and the rest are USA. Israel had one native born player and the rest are all USA guys. Even the Dominican has 2 USA players with Manny choosing to play for them and that is not a country that needs foreign born players to make a roster

My favorite current MLB player, Luis Arraez - batting 3rd and continues to produce at a high level.

At least someone sees his value, his country's team.

Not saying I'm cheering against USA but this is the ideal matchup for me...

SFG paying just $10M for 1-year for his services. Why the Twins thought the crapola they signed to play 1st base would have been better makes zero sense - and that's one reason of many that they're a hot mess right now.

    Enjoy your collection!
