what about them needs identification? what years?
I have several 5 gallon jugs of pennies from over the years. I've begun the process of sorting out the 95% copper and wanted to scan some of them ...
COPPER is gutter !

Scan them for what? Varieties? Value?
There are no really good apps for any coins.
Personally, I'd dump them all in a coin sorting machine or take them to one of those 0.02 gift card promotions. YMMV

Yeah, mainly just the really old buggers. It's more for kicks than actually trying to "find" something. THx for your input.

There aren't any really good apps.

Thanks. I'm happy I asked first.

Unless they were hoarded before 1963 you will probably be wasting your time and eyesight. It is always possible you could have some of the microscopic varieties that are all the rage these days but probably not many. Even if you do find any you have to be able to market them without running up significant sales related costs.
Is it worth the effort?
No. Will just seperate for 95% copper.
Thanks!

Nicest pull so far. Common wheat but oh that color

People really underestimate what you can still find in change. We are coin collectors for crying out loud! Why not look at your change and see if you've got something? All it costs is your time. Save it for a rainy day if youre too busy. It doesnt have to be some microsopic variety to find after 1963. Never heard of the 1972, 1983, 1984, 1995 doubled dies? They are all still out there and are worth hundreds of dollars. I found the 1983 ddr in MS64RD conditions about 9 years ago:
You could also find those close AM 1992 cents and sell them for a couple grand and buy something you prefer with the proceeds.
But probably a waste of time, right? 😆
No good apps for scanning, but you can visit coppercoins.com and learn about all the varieties. Good luck

Yep, me and the wife are gonna take ours to the coin counter at our bank next month. We figure we can have a couple bucks for the gun show coming up.

some stores are offering over face gift cards for cants
Use the pennies/ cents for food at the gun show. Gotta keep your energy levels up 😈
Careful, those bottles get very heavy. Glad to see you have it split in two. Careful with your back.
We're pretty rural. Hasn't been any offers that we've seen like that around here.

Depression penny. Just found this in a now half full 5 gallon jug. This is tsking forever separating the coppers ... a little at a time.
COPPER is gutter !

What are you going to do with the 95% copper ones?
I probably have 100 rolls of searched wheaties. I would be lucky to get 2-3 cents per coin selling them. It costs too much to ship them and shopping them around at coin shops or shows is labor intensive and not good for my back.
I'm going to stash them away. My kids will probably end up with them.

I found a 1988-D RDV-6 in 65rd in 2017 [though this variety is a bit harder to detect] along with a couple of 68-D DDRs. And there is a '99 WAM that may be worth finding.

Okay, how about some really bad ones?
Procrastination? You do realize how much work this is to separate just the coppers right?. I do have a life. I have more than 60,000 pennies all told to go through. Come on .... I'll be lucky if I ever finish just separating the coppers lol

SPEND THEM ALL, THATS $600

I’ve also found an ‘83 DDR sorting through my spare coin jar. They are still out there!

Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Weigh the pennies. Let a penny collector have them for their face value.

Accounting for presence of zinc pennies in your hoard, which are lighter than bronze pennies, figure 180 pennies to the pound.
I can't recommend that you use Coin Star to get folding money for your pennies. Get ahold of the local coin club. Tell them about your pennies and they may be able to put you in contact with one of their members who would be delighted to have your pennies to search through.

Right now, my rate is 22.5% copper pennies. I'll be doing this to the bitter end myself. But THANK YOU for the suggestion. BTW, my wheat cent count is at 30. Which is basically 0% until you get to the third decimal to the right of that initial zero lolz. All good. No Indian Heads and i'm sure that count won't change.

There are coin discriminators that can separate the 95% copper cents from all the rest. You don't have to look at the coins just run them through the device. They are cheap and effective .

You could buy one of those penny slides that separate the copper from zinc.
You should be able to get twice that for wheaties these days.

Yes and its all mine (ours) 🤨
They are very cheap to ship as you can put them in flat rate priority boxes. With bags of wheat selling for close to $300, you would net about $250 on eBay which is 5 cents each.

I WISH I could say I found this in my stash that I'm going through, but NO. I did just pick it up recently very fairly though
Indian Heads fascinate me.
