Here are two recently purchased Great Britain 1953 Halfcrowns in proof. Which do you prefer?

    But OK, I'll bite. Despite both sets of pictures being pretty bad, and my not knowing enough about potential 1953 halfcrown varieties, I will go for the second one, due to its apparent cameo contrast.

    Actually, I guess there is no wrong answer to "which do you prefer?". Since that's the one I prefer.

    LOL, well my iPhone images suck on the 16 and had better pictures off the 11S.
    BUT, the second is a Deep Cam 66 and beautiful in hand - HOWEVER the first is the much scarcer (rare?) Obverse 1 with the "I" of "DEI" pointing to space...

    The "nicer" coin is the Obverse 2:

    Note that there are some other differences obviously but this is the most obvious. I got the top coin from eBay for a grand total of 22 USD and note it sells for 400-500 British pounds so that was probably a good cherrypick.

    Congrats on the cherrypick. Since I personally have little interest in the variety, however, I’d sell it quickly and just keep the nicer looking (if more common) DCAM, on the basis of eye appeal.

    Still… yeah… if you got the first one for 22 USD and could flip it for 400-500 GBP, that’s definitely a nice cherrypick.

    I'd take a real cameo (as opposed to just on the label) over a scarce variety. So #2 for me too.

    Yes, I agree BUT I collect 20th Century silver and "silver" copper nickel 6d through halfcrown and so have to be completist. BUT I was not going to pay crazy money for the Type I and was lucky enough to find this one....
