U.S mint error penny questions
I found this penny that I thought was counterfeit, but it may be an error coin. Signs point to it being struck on a dime planchet, but I am not sure. Need some more info for PCGS etc, thank you so much!

No, no and no. It's damaged. Spend it if you can.
Howdy and welcome.
You state that "Signs point to it being struck on a dime planchet". I would really love to know how you came to that conclusion. Please come back and share your reasoning. Thank you.

A dude who claimed he knew coins told me that would be good starting point etc.
Let's walk through this:
a) The color of a cent planchet is: ________________________
b) The color of a dime planchet is: ________________________
c) The color of this coin is: ________________________
I hate to tell you, but if that is your only "sign" then either the "dude who claimed he knew coins" didn't know anything or he was pulling your chain.

Thank you
Anytime. Good luck with future finds.

It's two sides of same coin.
Oh that irony lol
It's just damaged of course, but I will say that it has interesting damage, at least.

Looks like it spent to much time in the dryer (nice job)
Or ground down to work in a pay phone. I have a few Wheaties that were ground down (you can see the file marks) for that purpose. My dad says they used to do that for pay phones and pinball machines back in the 50's/60's.
Yes, it worked to for the most part
