I went fri, enjoyed going as it was a straight shot down I95. Although, moderate to heavy rain all the way till about 30 miles from savannah. Beautiful convention center and view on the river bank. My main objective was to drop off submissions, and a couple of consignments to GC, and look around for myself. Got in at 9:30 because of being an ANA member which helped with lines, although lines at PCGS, NGC, PMG and CAC were not long at all. PCGS rep told me thursday lines were very long. This was the first time I was able to drop off stickering submissions to cac, they used to never come to shows, and I hated mailing bigger coins (which is all I normally ever sent to cac stickering)with postal theft, so I used to just have either GC do it, or Dave Kahn, HLRC, etc. I have been a member of cac for a long while so they are wanting me to submit coins to thier grading service as well, which I will do now going forward for myself and customers. Got account switched to fedx shipping. Anyway, got the coins I was intrested in consigning to GC dropped off with andy, great guy , kind of hoped Ian was their as well, but was not. I dont go to these type shows to buy for the shop or for resale, mainly because hard to look around and find bargains I can re-sell locally. I look for my-self as I mentioned. Some neat stuff , I saw three coins I really liked. 1793 Chain in pc 53, superb, I really liked it, 155k, little out of my price range with out having to liquidate some stuff, which I didnt bring, thought about it after I got home, but can't remember who in the heck had it now. other coin I liked was a 1896-O Barber Half in 66+, 78k, quite nice, a touch soft, but surface quality was nice. I also did see a 1795 Flowing hair in 58 that was quite nice but again over 100k .
I had a couple of coins that a couple customers wanted me to try and liquidate on direct sale, but offers were a bit low, these guys buy this stuff and pay super retail for the coins, then want me to help them get out of them with direct sell to dealers at a show for close to price paid, just dosn't happen. They never learn, I tell them all the time, buy it cause you like it, not to make a profit down the road.
Did see a couple of coins that I would have traded up for, but offers were just too much of a spread to overcome. Perfect example , was I had a 34-s Peace Dollar I had bought over counter in shop last year, totally original, sent to pcgs myself it graded 64. I was taking it to drop at cac since it has decent shot at doing so, I saw a 34-s in 64 at a major dealers table already cac'd. It was one minimal shade darker, but nice, Dealer wanted 10k for his, but only wanted to pay 6.2k for mine, claimed it has some toning and no sticker, so big difference in price. 3800 diff, I passed obviously, and submitted mine.
saw a few folks (collectors and dealers) from up my way while i was down there, bs'd a little and then headed back.
one other thing I might add, brought about 20 oz of silver that I had bought in shop on thusday, figured< i d bring down to sell here and get better price and pay for the trip, Not!! , even with silver approaching 93 oz that fri, dealers were either not wanting it at all, or way back like 10 to 15% behind spot, I told a few, I paid the customer more than that yesterday. I was a bit surprised at the offers i was getting there.
No rain on way back but got stuck behind a trailer moving a wide load building for about 150 miles up I95, and SC state troopers were not letting anybody pass, period. Anybody who triedm got blocked and pushed out of the way sideways.
@jdimmick any pictures or TV of your 34-S dollar?
I don't blame the dealers for not wanting silver. With the crazy swings lately, in their shoes I wouldn't touch it either.

A ‘non coin’ cool fact in Savannah: it’s the only airport in the world with two people buried in the runway at the airport! The Dotsons! 😉
I just posted a video to give you an idea what it looked like…. Honestly for us at Scarsdale Coin it was a GREAT SHOW
I think it was the best ANA Spring show we have ever had!
