I sold some stock a month ago and finally got paid today so I'm in this exact situation today, I'm really struggling with "sticker shock". The last time I bought gold was about 11 ounces for 22000 back in January 2021 and other than a tube of brittanias for 500 I haven't bought silver since a close call on a monster box of ASEs with BullionDirect for 8000 back in 2014. The difference between paying 2000/oz for gold or 16/oz for silver and what it costs today is too much for my head to get over. I have no idea what to do.
Nothing left in this thread to debate for me. Look at the percentages. This is the emergency. It’s ok to lock in 3% at the bank. Where do you think the bank is finding safety with that money ?
Practice makes perfect & nobody is perfect. So, practice being nobody.

Every time that I've ever made a meaningful purchase of either gold or silver, I had to grit my teeth and swallow the lump in my throat before pulling the trigger.
Since nothing, absolutely nothing has changed in terms of the federal, state, local, corporate and personal levels of debt, and since our government continues to spend with abandon on the things that continue to get them votes by people who either have no options or simply don't care to work - I fully expect precious metals to continue as the best investment/hedge out there.
When I deploy any significant amount of money, the main question is: "What's out there that is any better than gold, silver or platinum." For the past 28 years, the answer has been "nothing else". The metals have served me very well, in spite of having overpaid at times.
