In the arena of national coin shows, how does Summer FUN rate?

Dug13Dug13 Posts: 334 ✭✭✭✭

I’ve been to Winter FUN once, it was a great experience. Also, enjoyed being in Florida in the middle of winter.

I might have an opportunity to go this summer, but will need to juggle schedule to attend for a day.
Is Summer FUN a top tier show comparable to other shows such as Worlds Fair of Money, Central States, Whitman, etc?

  • I would still rank Summer FUN top-10 for sure, and possibly top-5.

I just saw a layout of the Baltimore show. It looks like a small show now. Long Beach also looks small. They seem more like regional shows now instead of the must attend events of the past. I have only missed 5 Winter FUN shows since 1973. It is a must attend event as is the ANA WF of M. The CSNS show has been revived and is now also a must attend event. The Summer FUN show has grown greatly over the last few years and is now a very worthwhile event. That being said, I am not a fan of Florida in July.

This past 2026 Winter FUN Show had about 700 tables. Summer FUN will have roughly a hair under 300 tables or so. As such, I like the ranking of @Walkerfan . Summer FUN is indeed a BIG show, but nowhere like Winter FUN!

It’s popular because Orlando is so easy to fly into and out of non-stop from so many airports. As far as the summer heat, believe it or not, in Florida we have air-conditioning. Unlike Arizona, Orlando in July rarely has a daily high temp of over 92 degrees. The low in July averages about 75 degrees. Typically Metro NYC is hotter for about three weeks every summer than Orlando.

I miss FUNs in Tampa, a genuine town with a history, and beaches nearby.

Orlando is just too MickeyMouse for me.

Winter FUN was jam packed this year. I think it is the same number of people but years ago Winter FUN used to be twice as large so we are stuffed in there like sardines! The size of Winter FUN is what Summer FUN used to be. They have both gotten smaller.

2026 Winter FUN seemed great and packed but it was because of the smaller form factor. It also did not help that it also coincided with a flu outbreak and sooooo many people walking around coughing and sneezing all over the place. I was there for about 45 minutes, said hi to a friend, sold some silver and then left.

Don't misunderstand, both Winter FUN and Summer FUN are great shows, but they are smaller than they used to be. I remember walking down aisle 2200, 2400, etc...the aisles at this year's Winter FUN only went up to about 1200 or so.

If it is convenient to attend the show, I would recommend it. However, I would not recommend flying/driving half way across the country. Lol
