    I think it's a great idea, but as a potential seller and buyer, I'm confused about the details.

    Do you see coins in person before approving them to be posted for sale? It sounds like the seller ships to you after a buyer purchases the coin.

    Do you accept coins for sale on the site and if so what is your fee structure?

    Brian,

    Some of the coin images aren't loading correctly. On many of the listings, when I click on an image to get the enlarged version, I get a little icon with the words "product image" next to it (see below).

  • @CommemDude more details about 3rd party selling will be available soon.

    @IkesT thank you for sharing the bug. I think we have resolved it. Please let me know if you experience any other issues across the site.

    Brian,
    Few Questions.

    How does one become a seller on this marketplace?

    What are the fees for those that will be selling?

    Are coins shipped to Stacks, then listed? Or do coins get listed on the marketplace by the seller, once sold sent to stacks to verify authenticity. Like eBay & PSA does when it comes to sold collectible graded cards.

    Hi Brian. Nice to see you posting. So walk me through this…

    In a registry set I collect (pattern Liberty nickels), the following coin is now for sale:

    “1883 Pattern Liberty Head Nickel. Judd-1717, Pollock-1922. Rarity-6- as a Specimen. Nickel. Plain Edge. Proof-66 (PCGS). CAC.”

    The asking price is $12,500.00. It appears to have sold about 6 months ago for $9,300.00.

    So, now it is being marked up 35% from there and is a Stacks approved purchase? I am not sure what that means? Should I assume Stacks approves the mark-up as “fair”? If so, would a 50% mark-up be fair as well? What should the buyer expect to sell this coin for if he bought it for $12,500.00 with the recent price realized history of $9,300.00? Would Stacks buy this coin for inventory now at, say, $11,250.00?

    Just trying to understand the concept here. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Wondercoin.

    Edited to add: I currently own the pop 1/0 PR66+ of this coin in my Registry Set, which, if memory serves me right, I crossed down from an older NGC-PR67 holder. But, I am always buying dupes of these great pattern Liberty nickels!

    @wondercoin

    To add on,
    I just noticed this Coin Listed today and it was sold in May for less than half the price on GC.
    (It seems to have been resubmitted for a regrade and now has a new cert)

    Thanks Matt04. Obviously, Washington quarters are still a great interest of mine as the 1932-Date PCGS Hall of Fame Registry Set winner a few years back.

    Your example is now about a 100% mark up on that particular coin (if you are correct in your assessment).

    So, it is important for all of us to understand exactly what Stacks desires to accomplish with this new and innovative program. The “stage” is set now for Stacks to receive “free advertising” here and lay out the intentions of this program. Is there any “2 way” market for Stacks approved purchases? How are buyers better protected by utilizing this program?

    Pardon my ignorance, but then how do you know it is the same coin?

    “Pardon my ignorance, but then how do you know it is the same coin?”

    Mrbrylyn: Matt04 can respond to that, but I just looked at the 2 coins at GC and Stacks and in my opinion they are, indeed, the same coin.

    @mrbrklyn

    Very Simple based on comparing photos of the coins from both listings.
    Here's key details that is identical circled. They are indeed the exact same coin.

    The only difference, the Cert has changed and the previous one is no longer active meaning an attempt was made to upgrade it to a 68 or change the cert in an attempt to get it stickered. There are to many hits on the obverse to allow it to
    pass and sticker though.

  • The Marketplace will approve coins if we feel they are listed at fair value. Sure, a coin may be worth $10k in one person’s opinion and $12,500 in another person’s opinion. But we wouldn’t take the coin listed at say $20k – whereas other platforms do not monitor pricing. Also, we cannot control what someone paid for the coin, what it may have been graded previously, or other factors that may have caused market value to have changed.

    I will not be able to debate the pricing on each listing. The 36-S quarter has a PCGS price guide value of $3500 and auction comps that support the asking price. Price guide information and past Stack's auction prices realized are transparent and readily available on the site so buyer's can make confident, educated purchases. And if you don't think the asking price is fair, many listings allow you to "Make an Offer". See if your idea of fair value and the seller's align, its quite simple and actually pretty fun.

    In these early stages we are only supporting select 3rd party sellers, but plan to open the platform up to others shortly and will provide more details then.

    Thanks for the explanation. I’ve got a few hundred thousand $$$ in coins at the moment I could send over there if and when you wanted to add me to your “select 3rd party sellers” group. Whenever that time comes, give me a call. I’ll be right down the street from your Hong Kong offices for most of the next month if anyone out there in HK is tuned into the situation, can explain it to me, and wants to sign me up. Cheers.
