Great OT win. Still think the 1980 team was great.

After the Super Bowl it was nice to see patriots that could block. Couldnt help myself lol

I love they weon, but the men and women both beat Canada on kinda soft goals. The mens one was nearly as bad as the womens.

I still dislike that fight was an automatic ejection robbing us of a bunch of fights again

I did not see any players from Puerto Rico in the gold medal game.😀 Being PR would like to become the 51st.

Kind of why we keep score McKinnon!

Maybe Kate McKinnon would have made that shot that Nate missed. They had the wrong McKinnon on the team!

MacKinnon is the last person that should be talking. Hes the one that missed the wide open net with no defender on him

According to Google, the only American to win a gold and Stanley cup in the same year is Ken Morrow. Now that pros can play in the Olympics, that stat will definitely be added to.

Its not the first time theyve been able to play though. I wouldnt be so confident that thats going to continue every time going forward. In all honesty its probably better for the USA if they let them play. Im glad it happened but the 2 if not the three best players on the ice were on Canada. The USA goalie had to stand on his head and they got lucky on the missed open net from what many consider a top 2 player in the league

Location will matter too. If the host nation gets fighting banned and discourages like the last one it does take away one of USAs advantages

Yes and no. Again Im happy they won, but re4alistically they shouldn't have. It took the save of a life time on a basically open net and top 3 player in the NHL missing a wide open net to get to get to OT

So they were... better. Helley made the save. He was better in that moment. Mackinnon didn't hit the open net. He wasn't good enough.

Im happy that happened and love that USA got the gold, but Im just saying we cant expect that kind of luck or that kind of save or miss every time. If NHL players are playing I would like to see it going back to more NHL rules since the fighting and physicality is one of the team USA biggest advantages instead of it being an automatic ejection

Of course not. But you don't have to win 10 times - just once.

I'm with you - I'd like to the Olympics use true international rules and officiating. And the larger ice surface but that might be too much to ask.

    True and thankfully it did.

Im completely fine with the larger rink. I do believe that the host country is likely going to play a significant role in whether or not the rules get modified going forward. The IHF has made it an automatic ejection but the host country or countries have the ability to push back and ask for that to be changed

I like the way the larger rink puts more emphasis on passing and skating. Yeah, it's a tough adjustment for NHL guys but tough. We saw the slightly-too-small rink impact Connor McDavid in the gold medal game as he ran out of room on his breakaway so there would definitely be some adjusting. But I would welcome it.

Id be perfectly fine if the NHL went to the Olympic sized rink, they wont because that means removing seats but theyre more fun to play on. You can do more, get bigger hits. scoring doesnt really go up but the amount of exciting plays generally does
