    I have a few different wooden nickels, mostly advertisements or free drinks.

    (1) advertisement for Rocky Knob Lodge in Conner MT
    (1) Plain old wooden nickel with buffalo on one side and indian on the other
    (10) good for a free cup of coffee at the Magic Wand Truck Stop in Vegas

    I also have a wooden token with a seat belt public announcement and a wooden drink token at a bar in Victor MT that's larger than a Morgan dollar.

    There used to be a pretty active group for wooden money collectors.

    Now, the only time I hear about wooden nickels is when my actively non-numismatic father warns me at the end of every phone call "don't do anything stupid and don't take any wooden nickels." I can usually rule out the second, but not the first!

    They have a box of assorted wooden nickels for a quarter each in my local coin shop. Every time I go in there with the kids they each get one. We're getting quite a collection. Not sure what we'll do when they all move to my house--maybe take them back and start all over.

    I don't really collect wooden nickels but I collect lots of other things
    and don't mind if they are wooden nickels. I especially like the town
    and city commemoratives even when they are wood.

    I know this is an old post but I just joined so seeing it for the first time.

    Yes, I collect wood money. Have been for years. Matter of fact, I just bought a roughly 3000 piece collection of which maybe 600 I didn't have.

    I have a wooden Dickel. It's half dime half nickel worth 7-1/2 cents somewhere. It's from a local bank dated 1956.

    I probably have the most, by far. I bought the combined inventory of 2 wooden nickel dealers. I may stay burning them for heat.

    Do you want to buy some more? I've got a hundred or so (WAG, I've never actually counted them) maybe, flats and rounds. Tried selling them on eBay but collectors won't pay $5 to ship them.

    I've sold some in lots on eBay. I should list more. The flats can go eBay standard. It's the rounds that need to be lotted.

    Maybe you'd like mine. There's at least 20 double row boxes, 3 cases of flats and 3 or 4 large boxes of loose

    There are over 1500 completed sales in the eBay listings. That's about 1500 more than I expected to find.

    These are VERY inexpensive. Out of those 1500 sales, I see only 8 total sales where an individual piece sold for more than $25. Bulk lots seem to be the rule, with prices 10c-50c each in bulk.

    Yep. I once sold a scarce set of 3 for $75. That's my personal record. My rate for flats is a pretty routine $4.99. Rounds just have to be listed in bulk as very few of them command enough of a price to be worth selling singly.

    I don't specifically go for wooden nickels, but if I come across one that fits into my collecting category, I'll pick it up. Here is one I picked up recently and didn't see the error until I was putting it into a coin flip. This is a wooden nickel for Little Bighorn Battlefield and the date on wooden nickel is August 25, 1876. Well, everybody knows the battle was held June 25th & 26th, 1876

    OLD THREAD ALERT!!! (Well, two weeks old. :) ).

    I came across this today.

    I had 1000 of these made in 1980 at a cost of less than $40 (!!!). I was promoting the return of the wheat ears design to the reverse of the Lincoln cent in 1984, which was when the 25 year mark would have passed, thereby giving the Secretary of the Treasury the ability to implement a design change.

    I sold a few via an item in Coin World, and I sent some to politicians in Washington.

    As I recall, my effort was not successful. 🤔 :D
