Laura Sperber is now a member of the esteemed PCGS Dealer Hall Of Fame. What an honor. It took over 50 years of really hard work, many sleepless nights, and lots of tears (yes, tears were shed). I thank PCGS for recognizing my work.
An amazing feat and certainly well deserved.
I remember meeting Laura in Long Beach back in the late 1980s and she was charming and kind along with being patient.
Laura has taught me a LOT! One of her best tips of many she has given me was NOT to buy an upgrade unless it has nicer eye appeal than the coin it’s replacing. Sure, that is common sense, but that tip has helped me build my collection in a positive manner. Thank you Laura!
Laura is currently helping me build a particular set.
Unlike many of her “deep-pocketed” clients, I am far out of their league, but she treats me the same as them. This is greatly appreciated, for which I am so thankful!
While this current set is not yet complete, the coins she has provided me for this set, at super fair pricing, are coins that I never would have been able to find on my own, despite what I feel are my excellent coin hunting skills!
Bottom line - Laura is a tremendous positive asset to our wonderful hobby! Congratulations Laura!

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!
Congratulations to Laura! I had no idea about her passion as a collector (I had forgotten about her Trime collection) and didn’t know she collected in her youth. I also think her humble beginnings as a dealer and working her way up inspiring to anyone who is considering becoming a dealer. The award for her efforts to combat coin doctoring is well deserved. I’m also glad to hear she had a kidney transplant and is on the mend.
Looking back, I should not have been surprised that she too is a collector. It is easy to overlook or forget the passion for coins some dealers have. I bought this coin from Laura more than a decade ago, and it remains one of my favorites. I’ll never forget her description and the passion she had for the coin’s uniqueness as it has exceptionally strong contrast even among designated examples. Her description and the photos actually understated the level of contrast. She bought the coin for its neat factor even though it is on the cheaper side (less than $5k purchase price). She basically sold the coin to me for near cost (almost immediately after acquiring it) and allowed me to split it up over a couple of months as I was going through a rough patch (with health issues too). She knew I would appreciate the coin.
Thank you Laura and congratulations! The award is well deserved.
I apologize the photos do not do the coin justice.
Congrats Laura! We met a few times at shows and I bought a handful of coins over the years from Legend (not their high end stuff, of course). No doubt she’s one of the most passionate people in the hobby. Congrats on the kidney transplant too. Stay healthy.
I saw very few pieces of interest, also looking at pretty similar material. Laura must have missed my booth, though, as I had many pieces that are top pop or extremely low pop, typically five-figure, coins mostly in PCGS holders. Three of my helpers couldn't make the show, so I was table-bound and couldn't walk choice coins to particular dealers. I barely had pre-public time to look around the bourse. Saw a nice pattern but the dealer price was just too high, even if it had been in PCGS plastic, and arguably even with a CAC sticker. (It was NGC.) There might have been a few others I didn't see or Laura snatched up already. Only had time at a few booths.
It was a good show, especially considering the circumstances of late/low marketing visibility, smaller size (still quite sizable), local storms and flight issues nationwide, and the transition difficulties natural in any change of ownership. The no non-workday Saturday session might have played into it, but probably not much.
The hosts did a good job. The general vibe was excellent. Sales were reasonable to good. I had many nice conversations at the table with dealers and the public, at all levels of numismatic understanding.
Looking forward to Buena Park in a couple weeks. Smaller, but in the same backyard. Many of the same dealers, but others. It is oriented to the 9-5 worker crowd more, the coin club members, silver and gold stackers, and regular collectors who can't take time off during the week.
The September shows should be complimentary. I talked with Kerry (Buena Park show owner/organizer) and he is not concerned. That Long Beach is September 8th-11th. September 11 is both close down for Long Beach and setup for Buena Park. In a way, that is ideal for dealers. Pack things up; drive a few miles; set back up; check into a new hotel. We will find out the reality, but it seems to make sense. Neither show should be hurt significantly by the other.
Edited to add: Congratulations to Laura too! Well deserved. I got caught up in the bulk of the comments and lost sight of the original post.
Congratulations Laura for your well deserved recognition. You have always treated me fairly and been available for coin discussions at all price ranges.
Congrats Laura. Well deserved. A quick Laura story - I had asked her to represent me at auction. I really wanted the coin and we agreed on the max price that we would pay. The coin sold for a little more than we agreed and I was totally bummed as i thought I lost the coin. When I spoke to Laura the day after, she told me that she won the coin in auction. I was totally thrilled with that and Laura made my day and week and year. She knew how important that coin was to me. So thank you Laura and I still have that coin in my cabinet today. Laura knows coin and most importantly knows how to enhance a collector's collection.......
Congrats coin mama, you deserve it. I’m sure you’re reading this thread, so I’ll say I’m honored to be able to be a thorn in your side when we go toe to toe.
In light of this news, think it might be warranted for our hosts to extend an olive branch back to these boards? @PCGS_Marketing@pcgs_education anything that can be run up the chain?
And then I say, let’s turn it up a notch and BRING BACK THE HOT TOPICS! 😈

Love it

Your passion, determination, hard work and perseverance have led to the fulfillment of a life-long dream. It doesn’t really get any better than that.

Since they put her in the HOF, could they also remove her forum ban?

It must be a first to be so recognized by PCGS for her esteemed accomplishments yet at the same time banned from posting here?
