For fun, I purchased a common 1910 half-dollar in an old time Kraft envelope with a grade of "fine"

I grade it significantly higher than that, though, even with a couple of faint pinscratches on the portrait.

VF35
There used to be three grades. Good, Fine and Unc.
This is less than Unc.
I for one, would like to see the flip!
The term "basal state" in coin grading was introduced by Dr. William H. Sheldon in 1949.
Nice looking coin. I'd grade it VF-30.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I agree with the VF-35 grade. Nice pickup!
Rocking my "shiny-object-syndrome"!!!

I strongly suspect that this coin was taken out of circulation before then.
XF details-cleaned.
Practice makes perfect & nobody is perfect. So, practice being nobody and be perfect !
Doubtful that it will straight grade- still a reasonable coin for a 7070 type set... or the album of your choice
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
I am grading it VF-30, a five point deduction off of VF-35 sharpness for the two hairlines on the cheek.

You’re free to grade it however you want. However, two hairlines (or even scratches) on the cheek won’t typically lower the grade of a VF coin, or for that matter, most other circulated grades.

Thanks, Mark. I'm just too much of an old EAC guy to give up on sharpness/net grading!

Choice Very Fine. The tiny scratches don't bother me in the least.
Nice coin
