On my endless search for some of the rarer early half cents sometimes, like in 2025, I go for many month without seeing anything of interest in my price range.
When I do find something it is almost always in a lower grade.
This 1795 Cohen-3 , below, is the first rarity that I have discovered in quite a while.
As Ed Fuhrman says in his Half Cent Handbook Liberty Cap Varieties, on page 196, when speaking about the Cohen-3, "There are so few problem-free examples that exist that most collectors will have to settle for a less than perfect specimen if they wish to own this variety.
There are numerous examples like this in the world of early copper coins.
Rare and ugly always seem to go hand in hand."
I can testify to this fact.
This is my second example of this variety and both at at the ugly end of the spectrum.
Still I feel very lucky to own two of any Rarity 5+ ( 40 estimated) coin.
My latest example is first. Pictures below are colorized to show detail better:

On the same page Ed also notes that most C-3's are in "very low grades
So these two are in good company

Love early coppers esp ones that appear dug. Have more of an artifact quality to them than avg coins. Cool
