Logan Paul sells Pikachu Illustrator trading card for more than $16.4M
It's the most expensive trading card ever sold at auction

The WWE star and social media influencer broke a world record when he sold his 1998 Japanese Pikachu Illustrator, graded as a PSA gem mint 10, for more than $16.4 million. It was the only card of its kind to receive the high grade by PSA, which graded 52 others.

    The photo in the article shows him wearing this card around his neck, and the PSA slab appears to be encased in some sort of diamond-encrusted larger slab. Perhaps the diamonds added to the high price?

    I read that the card was originally a PSA 9 and was resubmitted a few times buy a previous owner until it finally got bumped to a 10. The first thing the new owner should is get rid of that gaudy looking slab.

    The listing indicated the appraised value of the jewelry at $75K. Blingy but not completely nuts.

    I give this guy some credit. Although I'm not a fan, he turned that card into a promotion vehicle and cashed in. Pokemon is nuts, but I have to think his promotion of the card over the last couple of years added to its lore and probably generated some additional dollars in the strike price at auction.

    Don't sleep on that option. Since melt value of a nickel is 6.89 cents right now, that would make the solid block worth $22.6M in metal value, if you were allowed to melt nickels...

    I would take 1.64 billion pre-1982 cents instead. That would be $62.4M worth of copper.

    For that kind of money he could have purchased around 4,000 1957 Topps Willy Mays PSA 8 which would have been a much better investment. The buyer is insane.

    Unfortunately Logan Paul sold fractional shares of that card on Liquid Marketplace giving the buyers tokens that became worthless when the scam company went belly up. Those who bought fractional shares are getting nothing so Logan effectively sold the same card before. Hope someday through the courts the minority owners get paid.
