Show us your US coin copies
The only rules are 1. It must say COPY somewhere on the piece and 2. It must be a COPY of a US coin, 1/2 cent through $20. COPY AWAY!

The photos do not do this lovely piece justice.I included it in my exonumia collection because of it is very faithful to Charles Barber's original design for Liberty head dimes, 1892-1916.
"Two things are infinite: human stupidity and the universe; and I'm not sure about the universe."
-Albert Einstein-
Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

I don't know what this is but it says copy. So I guess it's a copy.

Would it pass as a quarter? My Barber Dime copy is much, much larger than the real thing.

Lol. That was one of my grandfather's favorite jokes. If you wanted to know the time and said "what does your watch say?", he would always counter "it doesn't say anything, you have to look at it. "
I wish he had lived to see smart phones and watches so I could have it "say" the time to him...

The Collectible Coin Protection Act strengthens the Hobby Protection Act by making it illegal to sell or assist in the sale of counterfeit or misrepresented collectible coins and provides enforcement and trademark remedies.
Overview
The Collectible Coin Protection Act (H.R. 2754, 113th Congress) was signed into law on December 19, 2014 to amend the Hobby Protection Act. Its primary goal is to prevent the sale, distribution, or support of counterfeit or imitation collectible coins in commerce, ensuring that collectors can trust the authenticity of items they purchase.Key Provisions
Expansion of Liability: The Act makes it unlawful not only to distribute but also to sell imitation numismatic items without proper marking, and it extends liability to anyone who provides substantial assistance or support to violators, including manufacturers, importers, or sellers.Venue and Jurisdiction: Legal action can be taken against violators wherever they transact business or in any venue proper under federal law (28 U.S.C. §1391), broadening the scope for prosecution.
Certification Services: The Act recognizes collectibles certification services—independent entities that verify the authenticity of collectible items—and incorporates remedies similar to those under the Trademark Act of 1946 for violations.
Marking Requirements: Imitation coins must be plainly and permanently marked "copy", ensuring transparency for buyers and compliance with the Federal Trade Commission regulations.
Enforcement and Penalties
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enforces the Act, using the same powers and procedures as under the Federal Trade Commission Act. Violators can face civil penalties, injunctions, and other remedies available under federal law. The Act also allows prosecution of anyone knowingly assisting in violations, giving the Hobby Protection Act “teeth” to combat counterfeiting effectively.Legislative Context
The Act was passed unanimously in Congress and reflects a bipartisan effort to protect collectors. It strengthens existing law by clarifying definitions, expanding enforcement options, and explicitly including certification services in its scope. The legislation ensures that collectible coins sold in the U.S. market are genuine and properly labeled, reducing fraud and protecting consumer confidence.Summary
In essence, the Collectible Coin Protection Act:
Protects collectors from counterfeit coins.
Expands liability to those who assist in violations.
Recognizes certification services for authenticity verification.
Provides FTC enforcement and remedies under federal law.
Strengthens the Hobby Protection Act with clear marking and sale regulations."Two things are infinite: human stupidity and the universe; and I'm not sure about the universe."

It must be a real challenge, even for an expert such as yourself, to distinguish copies made as well as this one from the real deal. The Hobby Protection Act, as amended, offers no protection for collectors of items like this, correct?

Could you please put the entire forum on ignore?
That was NOT aimed at you. Another poster made the joke and I had a fond memory of my grandfather which I shared.
And so you took my fond memory, felt the need to take offense (a real lack of understanding on your part) and resorted to insults.
Seriously, what is wrong with you? I'm asking for the entire forum.

I actually have two of these. One the giant 1933 DE copy (pictured) contained in a capsule and one in a slab (similar to the ANACS "soap bar") by the same minter as the 1849 DE copy shown earlier. I might try to seek out an 1894-S dime copy in American Mint holder. Not sure that such a thing exists, however.

Stefanie, if you have them, go ahead and post more known copies of the material you collect. We've got plenty of room for them here.
Do you have any Lincoln campaign medals in your collection? I'm interested in acquiring a nice one as an adjunct to my Lincoln penny collection but wouldn't know a fake from a real one.

I misspoke when I posted this:
"I actually have two of these. One the giant 1933 DE copy (pictured) contained in a capsule and one in a slab (similar to the ANACS "soap bar") by the same minter as the 1849 DE copy shown earlier. I might try to seek out an 1894-S dime copy in American Mint holder. Not sure that such a thing exists, however."I discovered later than I made the post that I have FOUR, that's right, FOUR 1933 DE copies. One is the giant one (pictured) and then two identical American Mint slabbed copies (of 1933 DE) in the soap bar style holder. The fourth one is a slabbed American Mint 1933 DE copy (also in a soap bar style holder) that is distinctly different from the other two slabbed 1933 DE copies. Same high quality and identical in all respects except for how American Mint marked as a copy. I will post an image of the 4th one here if I get indication from just one reader who is not in current Ignore status that they would like to see image of it.

Funny, but my Grandmother bought this copy of a Continental dollar for me sometime back in the early 70’s.(72,73 seems about right from what I remember). No word “copy “ on the replica. May be made of lead or pewter.
