Eisenhower Clad, Gold? - Gold Toned?

I bought mine decades ago. The man at the coin shop told me it was not gold plated. Why did I buy it? I liked it. On eBay many have been sold. Most (I believe) say they are Gold, not gold toned or manganese brass dipped. Are most, any of them actually gold plated? If they aren't, why are they selling for two, three, four times Red Book value if they're not gold?
Did I answer my own question? :D

    Gold toned.

Toning wouldn't account for the extra weight or the mushy lettering, plating would.

I'd still like to know why fake gold would have them selling for so much?

I would say mislead. There are sooooo many pages/sites on the interwebz pushing such ideas. I suppose it feeds upon itself.

It certainly isn't gold. I would say everything indicates plating, the weight, the color, the fact that all the lettering has the mushy look of a plated coin. Gold plated Ike dollars are extremely common, I've seen dealers at coin shows with piles of them to give out to kids.
