Question about Ben Franklin Poor Richard's Club Medal

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you know anything about this Ben Franklin Poor Richard's Club medal? The shape is different from typical medals that I have seen. The front features Ben Franklin's bust with the words Poor Richard's Club and Philadelphia below. The reverse is blank and has a hole in it. It reminds me of other Poor Richard's Club medals I have seen from the early 1900s.

It was listed on eBay in April of 2024. Supposedly sold for $225. Here was the description: I have for sale what I think is a trial strike for The Poor Richard Club medal. The Poor Richard Club was a private club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, whose members were mostly members of the advertising industry. The club was founded in 1906 with 75 members. The club was created as a way to promote and enforce ethical guidelines as well as social activities. This trial strike is 2 5/16 by 2 7/16 inches with the medal size being 1 5/8 inches in diameter. It looks like its made of nickel plated copper. On the medal in the center it shows the bust of Ben Franklin and around the rim it reads THE POOR RICHARD CLUB - PHILADELPHIA. It has a hole above the RI in Richard.

It was probably the trial for a ribbon and badge medal, hence the hole. They would have been common during that period.

    All glory is fleeting.
