Asking for a fellow coin club member, and looking for unbiased (by me) opinions either as a buyer or seller or both. Thanks.

I would cut my hand off with a rusty machete if it ever navigated to Whatnot or Etsy, which are just loaded with scammers. :s

My experience on Whatnot has been outstanding, it is pretty much self policing and if a seller gets caught being nefarious the community will out them very quickly. Also, should you have an issue the admins will make it right. I will say all of my experiences are buying and i have found some wild buys.

outing someone doesn't get my money back

@MsMorrisine If there is an issue Whatnot refunds you, not the seller.

  • Thanks for the comments so far. For that matter, if you have simply never heard of whatnot or choose to ignore it, that is valuable insight as well.

I have had the app for a few months. I’ve looked at it a tiny bit, never bought (or bid on) anything, though.

Whatnot has some legitimate big name dealers participating.

My personal experience is that there is a lot of gambling (games of chance, mystery boxes, etc.), some absolute ripoffs and some good deals. It really comes down to the host. I’ve made a few decent purchases from a well known dealer and had some fun but have used it less and less. Shows and conventional internet auctions are still more enjoyable for me.

I have heard of it and hold no interest in participating. The auction style primarily targets impulse purchase customers.

Watched one time. It was Seth's daughter and another guy auctioning off chances to win a WitterBrick. You tried to win the auction to then get a chance to have your name picked. That was enough for me. Not my kind of collecting.

I had an auction there, once. It was the only time, too. Might be good for some.

That's not what every auction is like.

I did a fair number of it last year. In the end, it's mostly not for me. It definitely has a following, but I didn't have the time to devote to building one.

It's fun, but it's very different. I think everyone needs to check it out and decide for themselves if they are interested in it.

  • Thanks, all. I will link this thread to a couple of club members who asked.
