The 40% silver ones are made of 40% silver. The other ones aren't.
But how they get to 40% is the cool part. The clad is 90% silver and 10% copper the core 25% silver and 75% copper if memory recalls. They aren’t solid like one would assume
@mach19 Your points and stars do not increase with each post you make!
They stay the same.
You have to actually get Likes to increase your points.
So, please stop making low effort posts.

You don't need a redbook if you can access the internet.
No question that the Internet has many valuable resources, but that does not replace books fully.
Completely disagree for newer collectors, it saves them time and provides the source of a lot of information as they really do not know what they are looking for and may end up learning Internet lore v. reality to save $15.
I'm interested in MS wheat including varieties, and found Tom's recent book invaluable in understanding the last one that I have to upgrade from XF45 to a mid MS grade: the enigmatic 1922 cent (in this case the 1922 no D SR die pair 2), the book is well worth the cost. Got the 1917 DDO in MS64 from HA about a week ago.
The PCGS Coin Facts is an excellent web site. Use it.

For a certified double eagle, I’ll go through and like each and every post until you make it to five stars.
That might take a while Brother !
With the snowpocalypse coming over the weekend, I have time.
Never has someone done so much damage to their reputation trying to get a meaningless star.

usually can tell by looking at rim edge, always can tell by weight
22.70 grams nickel clad versus 24.60 grams silver clad
all silver clad are from San Francisco
not all from San Francisco are silver clad

I still reach for the Red Book when I need a quick simple answer. Sometimes the web has too much information.
And there not 90% either 😘
