Peru Republic 4 Escudos Liberty type set completed!

Finally completed this set! It was a challenge, and almost impossible to do it, but it was possible because of collections like the Almenara Collection becoming available and surfacing the market after probably 30+ years of collecting.

Some of the pieces of this set are less than 5 examples known, and they are just one year type.

-1838 North Peru 4 Escudos AU53 Ex Hammel/ Ex Goodman/ Ex Almenara. This coin is a 1 year type, and the only 4 escudos struck during the Peru-Bolivia confederation. It was from the Hammel Collection sold in 1982, where Goodman purchased it. Then it appeared at the Goodman collection sale in 1996. After that it was in the Almenara Collection until 2022, when it came available, and I was able to get it at the Sedwick auction. This type was missing in the Eliasberg collection, Lissner, and Sellschopp.

-1850 Peru 4 Escudos AU53 Ex Clapp/ Ex Eliasberg/ Ex Almenara. This is also a 1 year type 4 escudos. The Liberty is slight different than the North Peru 4 Escudos, and it was struck in 1850, when the short-lived Peru Bolivia confederation (1836-1839) was no longer. This is the last piece that I was waiting to complete the set. This type was missing in the Goodman Collection, Lissner Collection, and Sellschopp.

-1853 Peru 4 Escudos MS63 Ex Lissner. This is a 3 year type Liberty (1853-1855). As you can see the Liberty is different than the previous ones. This type is more available, 1853 being the harder date to find specially in nice condition. 1855 4 Escudos being the most available.

-1863 Peru 4 Escudos MS61 Ex Sellschopp. This is the final type for Peruvian 4 escudos. This is also a 1 year type with the Seated Liberty design used in the transition from Escudos to Soles. 8 Escudos were struck in 1862 and 1863, while 4 Escudos just in 1863. This type was missing in Eliasberg and Goodman.

Happy Collecting!

Congratulations! Reading through the entirety of what you wrote in your post, I have to come back to your first couple of sentences where you said "it's almost impossible to do" to which, from what you described, I'd have to agree and yet still, you did it. Pretty damn fantastic. No doubt a lot of things had to go right for it all to come together.

I'm very happy for you, only your fellow numismatic brethren can truly understand how happy you must be having taking on such an impossible challenge and then, despite the unfavorable odds, you got to savor the sweet taste of success when you managed to completing the impossible, likely even surprising yourself.

Even more impressive when you realize that @achori is a YN. Kidding, but not really. He has many years of building his set ahead of him and already has one of the best Peruvian collections ever formed.
