MS (63-66) CAC coins from 1807 to 1890 - What coin(s) are difficult to locate in today's market

In my opinion it is Bust Half Dollars in MS65-66 and Seated Halves (63-65).

Two of my recent sets are Capped Bust Half Dimes (teeny-weeny coins, lol) and Capped Bust Dimes, guided by my mentor @EastonCollection. I discovered early on that for almost all of these, no matter the date, in almost every grade, there’s only a handful of coins that merit CAC stickers. So for the collector that wants peace of mind that in the opinion of CAC the coin is “solid for the grade”, as well surfaces that have not been “messed with” in a way that is unacceptable to CAC but may be acceptable to the TPG’s, the search may take a LOT longer, or one’s eye appeal standards may have to be lowered a bit, since each of these coins are almost 200 years old. I love these sets I’ve been putting together, 100% CAC.

I wouldn’t exactly call either of those series rare as a type, as both are relatively available in those grade ranges. However, if you were doing a date/mintmark set you would definitely run into trouble with a host of coins.

For reference, PCGS Population for bust halves in 65 is 489, 66 is 130. That’s just for the lettered edge halves.

Seated halves are also going to be up there. Now, if you were looking for CAC stickered, eye appealing bust halves and seated halves in those grade ranges (for a date and mintmark set) that would be a different story.

I vote for seated dollars, really tough to find and bust dollars which I won't buy without a CAC sticker for the same reasons that @winesteven mentioned above

I would say early gold from 1807 thru 1839 for sure. In MS 63-66 those will cost a fortune.

For my 1890 mint set, it seems hard to find a CAC quarter or half.

I'm going to go out on a limb here... Classic Head Large Cents. These are tough in lightly circulated grades... MS+ has got to be even more difficult

    ...didn't see @MEJ7070 s post... +1

I would think Bust and Seated. Also nice Barber. Really like the Seated ones.
